Problem connecting to ad-hoc network

I have setup adhoc network with wep key encryption enabled on my smartphone. I want to connect pi to this adhoc network.
Using wpa_gui utility, I am able to see my ad hoc network , when i try to connect using wpa_gui , it is unable to connect.
Whats going wrong ? What do i do ?

I have installed berryboot on sdcard. As berryboot allows to boot OS from storage device plugged in pi usb port. I want to use usb 3.0 flash drive so that I could get high write & read speeds .
Will I get more r/w speed than sdcard with class 10 ??
Does Pi support usb 3.0 flash drive??
