Might be a bit late in the project, and not wanting to re-read the whole 18 pages of posts.

I do not remember reading anything to do with cygwin.  Linux api for Dos.

Maybe it could help with identifying the mmc and makes use of linux commands.

xfce bah lol. you need to install compile software and a whole lotta back end stuff for it. its what lubuntu is using for their netbook edition also openbox. perhaps could be usefull?

Too much to choose from. Definately use x86 debian.

All suggestions welcome its a community afterall.

That said. Took a quick look at fluxbox quite impressive. Not going to need the menu system or most of the apps. Would need desktop and links to start anything else that could be usefull.

All ideas welcome.
