Re: NEW: Darkplaces Quake engine up and running on Raspberry

The rpi2 gets over 30fps sustained at 1080p with some of the lighting effects dialled down, but the stuttery movement when strafing or going forward/backwards is dreadful. Any ideas on how to improve this? You can try changing the sys_ticrate parameter in the darkplaces/id1/config.cfg file. This is...

Re: NEW: Darkplaces Quake engine up and running on Raspberry

The text(command) is already present, but it works only partially. To get from the game to the menu, does not work. But the button works to exit the menu or go back in menu! Most likely you have a cached copy or a mod with configuration settings that does not include the binding needed to go to the...

Re: NEW: Darkplaces Quake engine up and running on Raspberry

Controller works fine in menu , but i still need to hit the escape button to go to menu. Is there a way to map the escape button to controller? Quake 3 has the same problem. You can enable toggling between the menu and game by adding a binding to the configuration settings: nano ~/darkplaces/id1/co...

Re: NEW: Darkplaces Quake engine up and running on Raspberry

Darkplaces RPi v1.1 is now available for download. The first post in this topic contains the updated installation guide. Here's a summary of changes for Darkplaces RPi v1.1: Performance increase with new 16 bit-per-pixel mode. Framerates are typically 25% higher with frames per second ranging betwee...

Re: NEW: Darkplaces Quake engine up and running on Raspberry

Here's an update on Darkplaces RPi v1.1: Only a few issues are remaining for v1.1. Menus now operate with game controllers, keyboard entry works for entering player and server names, and tests are functioning for low memory conditions. In addition I had an opportunity to get more mods working such a...

Re: NEW: Darkplaces Quake engine up and running on Raspberry

I would like to thank everyone who participated in beta testing Darkplaces RPi v1.0. The initial release went reasonably well considering that this version was tested by only one person (me). Now that many people have tested the engine and reported a few issues and performance enhancements, there wi...

Re: NEW: Darkplaces Quake engine up and running on Raspberry

I've tried placing the lines above at the end of my 'config.cfg' file exactly as shown using NANO and they don't seem to have any effect. I was expecting textures to look more blurry, but they look exactly the same, so I guess they're still eating up as much memory either with or without those line...

Re: NEW: Darkplaces Quake engine up and running on Raspberry

After messing around with the configs for a while, I just came to the conclusion that joystick control in the game is just too laggy to be workable. I am very comfortable controlling FPS games with either keyboard/mouse or with a decent joystick (I can fly around Borderlands 2 with a joystick like ...

Re: NEW: Darkplaces Quake engine up and running on Raspberry

I was wondering if the author could give us some clues as to whether any of the config file settings or in-game settings can be used to decrease the game's memory footprint a little? I only ask as I'm running a 256MB Pi with a 128/128 memory split that throws segmentation faults with many Quake I m...

Re: NEW: Darkplaces Quake engine up and running on Raspberry

I got TF to run, but after a while, the intro crashes, and then the Pi crashes. I tried a bunch of mods, but most of them failed to load, or crashed shortly after loading. Do I need to "sudo usermod -a -G video pi" Every time before running Darkplaces? This has been mentioned before, but many mods ...

Re: NEW: Darkplaces Quake engine up and running on Raspberry

This is awesome. Been trying to get a quake that runs on the Pi for a while. Couple of things - it detects the joysick (Xbox 360 controller), and the controllers work for game play, but darkplaces completely ignores all the remapping I've done in the xboxdrv configuration. Therefore, it still requi...

Re: NEW: Darkplaces Quake engine up and running on Raspberry

I would like to let you know, but when I go to the second level, the level itself is black, yet enemies and health packs are visible. This happens with both the shareware and full PAK's. The same thing sometimes happens with the second demo (title screen demo thing) the level goes black, yet everyt...

There are other real-time computer visualizations for monitoring the GPU an...

Yes, the PI version of the Darkplaces engine is open-source. In addition development tools for real-time monitoring of the running state of the PI incl...
