Re: NGINX, SAMBA, USB drive Install order

The intent is not really to serve OSM tiles to clients. I am really the only client with an exception of maybe a couple of friends. The tiles I intend of serving are those I have created or modified for my own use. It was really just an example.

I will look at OpenVPN.

Thanks!

Re: NGINX, SAMBA, USB drive Install order

Nginx was created from scratch not forked from Apache :o Ah, yes, I did learn that. Forgetful mind! You could always use a VPN on the Pi so the data is not available outside your home network. Can my mobile equipment (laptop, smartphone, etc.) be part of my "home network" when the only connection i...

1) Mounting USB drives in fstab using the partition ID and the nofail option - use the output from the command blkid 2) Adding init=/bin/sh to config.txt if the mount fails and hangs your system It looks like item 1 is for automatically mounting the drive at start up which is preferred in this case...

Re: NGINX, SAMBA, USB drive Install order

Thank you! I am using an RPi 2 or 3. To be honest I don't recall which it is. Now that the 4 is out, I am thinking about it but I don't really need the speed and I have a plethora of RPi's in my house already! The USB adapter connects a SATA drive to an USB port It has its own power supply port. My ...

NGINX, SAMBA, USB drive Install order

Greetings, I have been working on a project on and off but haven't been successful yet. Since I haven't been successful yet, I end up starting over each time I work on the project. The goal: 1. Use an external USB hard drive. 2. Read/write from Windows PC. 3. Read only access from internet side. Is ...

Re: Installing Qt5 (correct name?)

Hi Topguy, Can be related to graphics card settings in VirtualBox, can you enable 3D accelleration ? I enabled 3D acceleration and now a window opens. An interesting things is, the window is extremely wide. Not just a screen or two wide, it feels like 10. It took a bit of dragging to get to the far ...

Greetings, System Win10, Oracle VirtualBox Manager, x86 Debian Problem: 1. After installation of qtcreator (which I am sure I noobed up) only load a title bar then disappears. File server?

Greetings, I need some clarification. I think I would like to build a file server. It is the best description I have at the moment. I would like to be able to update across my LAN but also provide access from the internet side. Updating across the LAN would be a simple copy/paste from one drive to t...

Re: RPi-Zero Wi-Fi

I added key_mgmt=WPA-PSK to each network option. My entries now look like this: network={ ssid="Home" psk="homepassword" key_mgmt=WPA-PSK } I changed the comments for the two "psk=xxxxxx" lines so it is using the actual password rather than other. It is working now. I did this because on my other RP...

dtoverlay usage

Greetings, For the most part I have been doing singular projects to try a particular thing. In many of them I have used "dtoverlay=xxx". Now that I am going to meld several things together, I have a simple question. Is the use of dtoverlay additive? If I use "dtoverlay-this" and later "dtoverlay=tha...

Re: RPi Zero

I have other models. The main reason in looking at the Zero was purely size. I have a piece of equipment that the Zero will fit in but the other models won't (well at least not easily). Any hubs on the various models appear to work fine with the accessory. External hubs, being of typical suspect qua...

Re: RPi Zero

I figured that was the way it was but I haven't been able to get a Zero yet to verify.
Extra port only on pads would be nice. I'll have to look at other options.

Thanks!

RPi Zero

Greetings,

Anyone poking aroundon the RPi Zero discover a second USB port that is not brought to a connector but can be solder to?

Reason: I need one non-hub port for a device and software that tends to be picky about hubs and a second for a hub for typical peripherals.

Thanks!

Fred

Yeah, I am thinking it is network related. I should have seen other complaints otherwise. I will contact our help desk. Thanks for your help. mirrordirector.raspbian.org issues?

Greetings, I am trying to install minicom. Usually I don't have trouble with simple things like this. Some things have changed since the last time I used the RPi (e.g, network, firewall) so I am trying to see if it is the network or something else. So for starters, I created this post using the Ephi...

I appreciate everyone's helpfulness!
