The confusion comes from the Dutch booklet that comes with the product specifically stating that I have to power it from the display board without offering any alternatives. Then on the page it says something completely different. But I guess if this works, i'm fine with that. Thanks. edit: And also...

Powering the official Raspberry Pi Display

Hey I have the official raspberry Pi 7" display. The manual states I have to power it from the USB port on the display, but due to space issues in my project I'd like to power it from the Pi (by having the usb inserted into the PI instead). Is there any harm in doing this? Or can I safely just power...

You should NEVER modify system headers. Copying, moving or symlinking is quite bad too. Modify the makefile of whatever you're building. Under cflags or something similar, just add:
