Re: Which GPIO to use and other issues

Thanks Joan, I've started reading the GPIO ZERO Docs. I like the simplicity, a lot.

BTW is there a way to capture the scrolling messages on the screen during an update of Jessie? SO I can go back and slowly read thru it.

Which GPIO to use and other issues

I’m having some challenges with Python 2 and 3. Especially which GPIO library to use. PiZero, Pigpio, something “Elec”, etc….I’ve found some YouTube examples but some examples work for me and some don’t. The frustrating part is I don’t know why they don’t work for me. I’ve “updated” my Pi 3 a couple...

RT-MWK01 touch pad

Just paired a RT-MWK01 with a Pi 3. The touch pad seems a bit weird. The cursor does not follow smoothly. Is this normal? Is it some kind of hardware/software resolution problem?

Re: tightvnc

Thanks guys, Now you've got me interested in the GUI display as it appears on the monitor instead of using tightVNC. I'll dig into the x-thingy :) All of this stuff is a big learning curve for me. I wish there was a "book for dummies" talking about the Pi's file structure, who does what, what goes w...

tightvnc

I am a complete novice about and am using the first pi model made. Also I know nothing about TightVNC. Right now my pi is cabled to my router. It has keyboard, mouse and a HD tv. I down loaded Noobs and automatically update to Jesse per recommendations. I am trying to make the pi headless so I can d...

Re: Static vs Dynamic Mac Address

I just learning the technical details of networking the Pi and do get confused with the vocabulary some times. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. I think I understand what you've been trying to tell me. With the Pi cat5 to the router I'm thinking I should tell the router some how (?)...

Re: Static vs Dynamic Mac Address

Thanks for the quick reply. The MAC address I'm referring to, is one given by our wireless router to a Pi. Right now the Pi is using dynamic MAC address. I'm wondering if I should change that to a static MAC address. What are the advantages and disadvantages of both? I would like to use our wireless...

Static vs Dynamic Mac Address

I'd like to run Pi headless on our home network and be able to view/control/program over the internet.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of static vs dynamic MAC addresses? When and why should you use static? When and why should you use dynamic?

Thanks in advance.

Headless Pi Greenhouse logger/controller

My proposed project is a data logger/controller for a home aquaponics greenhouse. This is a very ambitious project for me being at the “pre school stage” with Pi. I will have to Google all the vocabulary people use to really understand what you are telling me. Once I get the headless operation going...

Trying to verify downloaded image

I have no real computer experience outside of click on applications in my MacBook Pro. I found the instructions for the Mac and used the one click method to download the zipped image: MAC Instructions: 1. Download the image file from the Raspberry Pi website and make sure you have the icon of the do...
