puzzling problem with PHP script and telldusd

Hi, I have a strange PHP problem that baffles me For several years now I have had a web server that builds a list of my Homeeasy lights and allows me to switch them on/off using tdtool and the telldusd. For the last year or so it has been running on stretch I recently did a dist_upgrade of stretch a...

Re: WiFi only connects with static IP?

Hi Steve, Not sure if you have solved this problem, so just a couple of thoughts. If you are using a lab supply, how many 5v USB sockets are connected, and how much wire is attached to the supply. Your 5v supply may be be very noisy, especially if you have kids playing with motors relays etc I have ...

Re: Stretch SSH broken?

I created another SD card with the stretch-lite 2017-11-29 image
Installed and can confirm that every line in sshd_config is commented out, so ssh will not work

Stretch SSH broken?

Hi, last Friday I downloaded the stretch-lite image from the rp download page. Last night I created a SD card and installed it in a rp3. As soon as the install completed, I did a dist-upgrade and enabled ssh. I then tried to ssh in. I got connection refused. I got in via a local login, and ps showed...

Re: OSMC tvheadend issue

I don't want to run the tvheadend server, I already have that running on a separate pi 2.

Why break something that was working just fine.

That's the sort of arrogant developer behaviour that really ticks me off

OSMC tvheadend issue

A quick heads up The latest version of OSMC is incompatible with the raspian tvheadend package. I have tvheadend running on a pi2 and my OSMC running on a pib. I also have Kodi running on a tablet. On Feb 23rd OSMC auto updated, after that no live TV. TV still works on the tablet. Logs show htsp inc...

Re: CouchDB on the Pi

Hi, to clarify, This is a bit off Pi topic, but I think it's worth pointing out. If you use Pouchdb, it is intimately linked with your browser, it's just Javascript. afaik if for example you use Skyfire to access the Couchdb data, it will be stored in an IndexDB database that is associated with that...

Re: CouchDB on the Pi

Hi, I have been working with pouchdb / couchdb for a couple of months. Here is my experience. First a bit of background, I am a retired unix system admin, so I have been messing with scripting for a long time. I now own a shop, and 2 years ago I wrote an epos system, for the shop which consisted of ...

Re: [GUIDE] Chromecast streaming from raspberry pi

I hate to rain on your parade, but why - apart from the "fun" of doing it, would I want to send data from a rpi to chromecast when I can install Xbmc and do pretty much everything chromecast can do and much more without telling Google all about my viewing habits. I also don't need to waste time conv...

Re: Access RPi anywhere

I can see why you would want to do this, you can't store much in a free Dropbox account. There are several issues with doing what you intend. As a general rule, broadband networks are asymmetrical, the download speed may be 8Mbit, but the upload speed is probably only 350Kbit, that's 40KBytes/sec, s...

wifi dongle config

Hi, I need to configure wifi in a test env before moving it to production, so I want the wifi to work in both envs, so a simple entry in /etc/network/interfaces will not work. Having struggled with wpa_supplicant, I eventually found the following site http://kerneldriver.wordpress.com/2012/10/21/con...

please add vim to the base distro

Hi, dunno if there is a better way to make a feature request, so I make it here. Please add vim to the base raspian build - ie install it by default. Please supply a useful .vimrc for the pi and root users, the default /etc/vim/vimrc is an empty shell, I suggest adding http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Exam...

Re: what use is mathematica for raspi

Thank you for the replies. I am a bit negative about mathematica for a number of reasons. I agree that the raspi is an educational resource for all ages, however anybody who wants to do serious work with mathematica will probably have outgrown the need to run it on a pi. The major educational role o...

what use is mathematica for raspi

I am puzzled why Mathematica is being pushed as an educational resource. I accept that it may be a wonderful tool for doing grandiose projects in academia and deep pocket govt departments, but it seems in appropriate for the intended Raspi target users. I can understand that the Wolfram developers m...

Re: Long exposures

Poing I Think what you say may be true for a particular camera system, the manufacturer designs each lens to be interchangeable and fudges the appeture sizes to make your theory work. That is not true for lenses of different type, if that were true then the pinoir would pass the same amount of light...

Re: Long exposures

poing, I cannot argue with your group think, swapping lenses on a film camera should produce acceptable exposure, but that is because film had a relatively wide operating exposure range, a negative 1 stop underexposed could generally be rescued in the printing process. In the days before through len...

JBeale, looking at your posted night time pics, you get an acceptable image with the 6mm lens whereas I get next to nothing using the std lens, so like everything it's a trade off. The trade is to run the std lens at ISO 1600 with high noise or ...

Re: Long exposures

just doing the maths on JBeale's 6mm f1.8 lens, the lens collects 7.2 times as much light as the standard picam lens. That's obviously means the camera is 7.2 times as fast as std. ie if the max ISO value that can be set is 1600, then the bigger lens gives an equivalent to an setting of ISO 12000. A...
