Or can i just install as described and then just point my config to the comm port rather than output via the PI GPIO pins ? I have my ws2801 connected (data+clock+ground+5V) to the GPIO pins and the "boblightconf" like this i have changed some values to how i would try if i had your LEDs: name ambi...

Have you overclocked your Pi? And are you streaming the movies? I got rid of almost all stuttering with a 900mhz overclock and an increase of the buffersize in xbmcs advancedconfig.xml but my TV can play dts so maybe this doesn't fix it for you I am running the standard raspbmc 800mhz setting. and ...

Looks like someone did it without modifying xbmc but boblightd... Hopefully we can get the information how he did it I have followed him "oscar/Ogglas?" in another thread and i believe he uses a custom xbmc on a windows computer and the Pi only handles the lights.
