Does a Model 3 B+ Run Cooler in a Pi-Top?

I'm wondering if any of you have tried using the Model 3 B+ in a Pi-Top notebook, and if you have noticed that it runs any cooler than a Model 3 B used in a Pi-Top? I had to add heat sinks and a cooling fan, and keep the slider cover removed, in my 1st Generation Pi-Top which uses a Model 3B, in ord...

Re: Sleep Mode - and or turn off backlight?

May I ask if you good folks running Debian Stretch have access to the display brightness control? Reading this thread leaves me uncertain of that. I am looking to adjust my display. I am running Debian Stretch on a Pi 3 inside a "Pi-Top" notebook which has its own attached display and keyboard. When...

Re: Absolute max/min supply voltage?

Any time something is powered with batteries, the batteries will slowly decrease in voltage available as they discharge. And of course we also know that most batteries will yield more than their rated cell voltage when fully charged. For these reasons I think using a 5V regulator circuit would be ve...

Thanks!

I've got it all sorted out now, and my display no longer blanks itself, either from the console or from X.

Re: Screen blanking in terminal mode

Hi, Well I'm no expert myself, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but this shouls work... At command prompt, type: sudo nano /etc/rc.local This opens a file which loads at boot, use your arrow keys to navigate the cursor to the line just above exit 0 Here, add the commands that you have given ...

Re: Screen blanking in terminal mode

Thanks for the reply! But as I am quite new to the Pi, and know nothing of scripts, when I read the posts at that link you suggested, I understood very little of of it. I have since edited my post, above, to detail what is working for me by placing those settings in a couple different configuration ...

Re: Frankenspectrum!

With showing hidden files set, I do not find any instance of .xsessionrc in the Home/Pi folder. Does this .xsessionrc file pertain to Debian Wheezy 7 on the Pi? Or would some other file take its place for me? The display blanking prevention I found does work, so I need to find a way to execute 4 com...

Re: Screen blanking in terminal mode

I believe I have found a successful method to stop the display from blanking on my Pi. Here are the settings that are working for me. But be aware that there are a few prerequisites that were also required when I attempted to duplicate the process from a new SD card freshly flashed with Wheezy 7. Yo...

Re: Frankenspectrum!

Thanks! One more question. You used the character $ to preface some folder names in your examples. So what does $ mean? I "think" I may have finally just stumbled across how to keep the display from blanking on the Pi! (Definitely no easy task for me. 2 days of searching and experimentation so far) ...

None of the above is working for me. I am finding all sorts of suggestions online, and not a single one of them works so far. Very frustrating.

Re: Frankenspectrum!

Can you please tell me where, exactly, in the file tree I would find this file?

~/.xsessionrc

What does the tilde character mean? I have tried to Find this file using Terminal (can't believe there is no search tool in the file manager!!??) and cannot find it at all.

Re: Screen blanking in terminal mode

If I may join in this discussion, I have not tried dealing with the screen blanking while at the console, but I am trying to stop it from blanking while running the X GUI. Will the aforementioned suggestions also help that? I haven't tried any of them yet. But last night I was trying to make it work...

Adjusting the power saving settings

I'd like to increase the time it takes for the Pi to decide to blank the display when "not in use". I always find it disconcerting when I am in the middle of a computer doing some lengthy task and I look up to see the display is black. My first thought is always that something has gone wrong. :) How...

Re: Absolute max/min supply voltage?

OK, I hacked a cheesy Chinese USB to micro USB cable, and added 6 feet of nice 18AWG wire into it. I used only about 3" of the Chinese cable on each end to make the connections. It has extremely fine wire. I am not sure of the gauge, but I use a pair of Klein 11057 precision wire strippers to work w...

Re: Absolute max/min supply voltage?

Thank you all for the suggestions. Although I have all the components here to approach this from several angles, and I was planning to build an LM317 regulator circuit for a solution later today, to be used with one of several types of 12V supplies on hand, the option to actually "build" a beefier p...

Absolute max/min supply voltage?

I am looking for some power supply absolute limit specifications. I'm new to the PI, (specs of my hardware are in my signature) and really would like to use a 6ft. Accesing Shared Files on Windows PCS on my LAN

I am looking for a guide to help me set up access from my RPi to the various Windows 7 and Windows XP computers on my home LAN. I also fixed my RPi display issues by obt...

Increase Window Header Icon Size?

I have Wheezy's X GUI pretty much set to my liking, using /boot/config.txt framebuffer settings for 1920 x 1200 on a 22" widescreen display. I have +450 and -450 left and right overscan settings. Things are centered nicely. I increased the desktop font using the /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc file with a ...
