Re: RTC That Just Works

So there aren't any RTC modules with quick/easy software already included....yet. I'll check into the subject again later. As sales increase and the market expands perhaps adafruit or someone else will do a kit and have the wares included in the base debian distro. I prefer to save my inner geek for...

RTC That Just Works

I need a RTC that I can install and the software to run it
is available via apt-get or is already included in the wheezy
distro. I'm not gonna go compile my own modules and source code.
So is there a clock that fits this?
I need plug-n-play.

Heatsinks Really Needed?

Has there been shown an actual need for heatsinks on a RPi? I'm having trouble believing that the chips on an RPi actually do get hot enough to really require a heat sink. After all, if the people that designed the RPi thinks it needed heatsinks then they would have been supplied with, right? I thin...

Re: ModMyPi Mk.2 USB Hub, 2.5'' HDD, Patch Bay, On/Off - Ide

Just an idea...... I'm considering desoldering/removing the RCA video connector. Then use the circuit board real estate to mount a normal power jack. The miniUSB power jack is just too small and I'm always trying plug in the usb power plug upside down. I think it's also too fragile for my liking. Of...

Pi Firmware

Is there a such thing as a firmware update ? Has there ever been any firmware updates? I've seen confusion posted in forums concerning apt-get update/upgrade and the subject of firmware. Seems like apt-get update/upgrade only deals with software. Or maybe there's a special apt-get command for pi fir...

Re: Setup Pi for Ad Hoc network but can't ping or ssh

So temporarily static your mac as:
192.168.1.50/255.255.255.0 and see if you can then ping the pi.
If so, then you should also be able to SSH into it.

If that truly does not work then post the output of ifconfig command.
1 typo in the subnet mask or something like that can ruin the day.

Ext. USB Drive

From my limited googles this is what I am seeing, is this correct? There is no way to boot a pi wholly and completely from an ext. USB drive. Correct? The pi will ALWAYS require an SD card to initially boot, then it can switch over to a boot partition on an external drive and finish the boot process...

Re: Pings Take A Long Time

Then I take it that pings are not throttled. Thx for the ideas, I'll keep those factors in mind. It looks like the problem went away after I did an apt-get upgrade. There were alot of updates and it got back to normal ping speeds after applying them. Weird...never saw anything like it. Love my pi! I...

Re: Can not get a good SD

The problem is owned by 1 of 2 possible entities: The distro, or the SD card. Reduce the scenario to hardware and software minimums to prove who owns the problem. Take the SD card that is known to fail the fedora installation. I would do 2 different complete installs on the same SD card just to be s...

Changing The Desktop Pic

Hi, I'm using the latest wheezy and all is well.
How do I change the desktop pic?
Is there a file that points to the desktop pic that I can change?
Thx.

Pings Take A Long Time

I SSH into my pi as pi user, or root. I ping 127.0.0.1, the loopback address. All is well, the pings happen at a standard fast rate. But when I ping the hardwire ethernet port addy, the pings take a long time. About 5 seconds between pings. The pings are happening reliably with no packet loss. It's ...
