Re: Entering aarch64 execution state

Thank you Xylnao! I was able to boot my rpi3 with your image. The lack of a GUI Desktop was not a problem, since I prefer using a command line. Some of the things that I was able to do with this image was: 1) Configure eth0 with ifconfig/route 2) Run "adduser pi" 3) Run "systemctl restart sshd" 4) R...

Re: Binaries and source for 64 bit kernel for RPI 3

Do you have any instructions on how to install your pre-build binaries on a rpi3?

Thanks,
David

Re: Benchmarking a raspberrypi compared to my own PC

I don't believe RPI3 needs a 64 bit OS to access a it's 1GB of memory or 16GB SDcard filesystem, but it would be nice to access to the 64 bit float point registers. ARM fp registers have been 64 bit for quite a while. Like, as long as there have been fp registers. Tim, thank you for pointing this o...

Re: Benchmarking a raspberrypi compared to my own PC

Has anyone tried to build a 64 bit arm (AArch64 Cortex A53) gcc compiler on a RPI3, assuming you are one of the few lucky people that were able to get a RPI3? I don't believe RPI3 needs a 64 bit OS to access a it's 1GB of memory or 16GB SDcard filesystem, but it would be nice to access to the 64 bit...

Re: Is it possible to add a new forum Parallel programming

The high school students attending the "CODE-at-TACC" summer class were able to place 64 in the July 2015 Graph500 list announced at ISC 2015 in Frankfurt, Germany. see http://www.graph500.org/results_jul_2015 . If you were a student in this class then Congratulations ! Ejolson, to answer your quest...

Re: Is it possible to add a new forum Parallel programming

Check this out. https://github.com/CODE-at-TACC/summer-2015/blob/master/parallel/graph500/01-graph500.md The Texas Advanced Computing Center is teaching a two week class to high school students about the Raspbery Pi 2 and an introduction to parallel computing. I wonder where they will place in the G...

Re: Cilkplus on RPi2B

Yes, I built gcc 5.1 with the Cilkplus extension this weekend and uploaded the tar file to github. Cilkplus enabled gcc-5.1.0 compiler for Raspberry PI (armv6) see https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=102743&p=736001 for ejolson's current build instructions. To install become root...

Re: Cilkplus on RPi2B

This morning I saw that gcc 5.1 will be released Wednesday, April 22. https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc/2015-04/msg00214.html The currently release candidate is ftp://gcc.gnu.org/pub/gcc/snapshots/5.0.1-RC-20150418 and it still looks like it needs Tufty's patch to generic/os-fence.h and your patch to gener...

Re: Is it possible to add a new forum Parallel programming

Sorry, this post has nothing to do with FFTs. When teaching parallel programming it is sometimes helpful for the student to visualize the work being done on a multi-core processor like RPI2's armv7. A lot of people know that running in a separate window the linux command top and then type " 1 " to l...

Re: Cilkplus on RPi2B

Eric, Nice scaling of your parallel cilk FFT code running on the RPI2. I was wondering if there was enough memory throughput to keep four cores busy. How did you determine the cutoff values"if(s>32||n<1024) {" in the routine fftparallel? Have you had time to compare the your cilk version of your par...

Re: Cilkplus on RPi2B

Ejolson, Thanks for the instructions on building the gcc 5.0 snap shot with the Cilkplus extension. :D I started with the normal raspbian using autoconf version 2.64 instead of using minibian distribution so I did not need to modify configure.ac and config/override.m4. I would add the instructions t...

Re: Is it possible to add a new forum Parallel programming

Ejolson,
Looking forward to see your modifications on your Cilkplus posting and duplicating your results this weekend.

You know that this is going to help change how we learn and teach parallel programming.

Good job!

Heater, I posted the RPI2 version of the Parallel-Chudnovsky-PI program for the " PI day " celebration. And to see if anyone was interest in a starting a topic about parallel programming on the new quad core RPI2. Your statement "Turns out that using four cores on the Pi makes it 40% faster than usi...

Joe,
Had the same problem building gmp-6.0.0a on the RPI2. Found a gmp patch for the RPI2 at PILFS http://www.intestinate.com/pilfs/ . It worked for me.

Re: Is it possible to add a new forum Parallel programming

Yes, I wrote and compiled the program to run on both the original RPI's armv6 single core processor or the RPI2's armv7 quad core processor. I could have written and compiled the program to run only on the Raspberry PI 2, but I wanted to introduce one of the new capabilities of the RPI2. So thank yo...

Well yes, I agree with your first statement "Pi has been capable of running multi threaded software since it launched", but not the second part "The Pi2 doesn't really change anything in that respect". To understand why, here is the parallel pi program (referenced at the beginning of the thread) com...

Is it possible to add a new forum Parallel programming

Raspberrypi.org, Thank you for creating the new quad core Raspberry PI 2. :D With the Raspberry PI 2 it is now possible for anyone to write C, C++ and Fortran code using parallel programming extensions like OpenMP, Pthreads, OpenMPI, and hopefully soon CilkPlus. Is it possible to add a new forum for...
