Re: No Wifi connection to Pi Zero W after Raspbian update
@carriba: thank you for your time and patience in pushing this issue. I received a ZeroW yesterday morning (my Pi #16 but my first ZeroW) and spent most of the day trying to get internal wifi to cooperate. The board worked fine with a USB wifi dongle attached, so I was coming around to the idea that...

Raspbian file system corruption?
Just wondering if there are any recent file system corruption issues with Raspbian. It has only started happening since the beginning of this year and I seem to have suffered 4 or 5 times. The failure mode appears to be very specific; I generally notice the problem when I try to browse the root dire...

Re: A Gambas Question
I suppose you don't need a real desktop to start a Gambas app in fullscreen.... ...well, I did say it was a simplified answer. If you want to run a Gambas GUI app you would need a windowing system and you would also need a widget toolkit (e.g. either GTK or Qt). So you might as well run a light-wei...

... What I want to do is for the Gambas program I have created to come up on boot but not in the desktop but to take over the whole display as a stand alone UI... If I understand you correctly, you have created a GUI app in Gambas, but you want to run it at the command-line without loading a deskto...

Re: Non-contact tech for sleep monitoring
This is a really interesting project Alex. Is there anything special about the infrared lighting? Could the light source be clustered close around the camera, or do you need a bit of side lighting to create shadows (enhance texture)? Is the system tolerant of the subject moving? (i.e. can the system...

Blimey, such negativity... Thanks James, but I think it would be more interesting to hear your views on the thread subject. Let me re-phrase: do you think it matters that Arm will/may be sold to an overseas company, or maybe you agree with someone who said to me yesterday "...it doesn't matter...

Re: Arm to be sold to Japanese
It seems to me that many of us have benefited from the efforts of the Arm team. If not from the improvements in car technology, or the performance of Smart phones, then at least by ownership of low cost computers like the Raspberry Pi (...or why would you be here?). In the UK we also gain by Arm (pr...

Re: Ping blip every 60 seconds on Pi2
A few final observations on this, in case it helps anyone. I have 3 uSD cards containing Raspbian: 4.4.12-v7+ #892 smp Thu Jun 2 15:41:19 BST 2016 The image on two of these uSD include dhcpcd. These have the ping-blip problem when used in a Pi-2 or Pi-3 with Edimax wifi dongles (EW-7811Un or AC600)....

What makes you think this is a problem? I don't know that it is, but it is not "usual". Having just reached the end of our bird box (nesting) season, I thought I'd make a start on next years design while I'm still eager and keen. Fundamentally, I need a good, solid (wifi) network. So that...

Ping blip every 60 seconds on Pi2
I'm more curious than bothered about this ping problem; I did a fresh install of Jessie (full version) on a Pi2 this morning, then updated/graded. All seemed well, but while running ping I noticed that every 60th ping was long (typically 1800ms) followed by a shorter one (say 800ms) then ping times ...

... If I have to connect my usb harddisk to it what should I be using? If the Pi restarts and then runs normally with the USB drive connected, it shows that the inrush current (the higher initial current) is pulling down the 5.5Volt supply momentarily, just long enough to reset the Pi. If you can't...

The Raspberry should be centre screen, which indicates that the view of the desktop is clipped. Try reducing the geometry (say 1024 x 768 as a starting point).
