Personal Installation Notes for Pidora-2014

Below are my personal detailed notes for installation of Pidora-2014. They address a couple of minor problems that I have encountered during Pidora installations so I'm posting them in case they save someone else some troubleshooting effort. The specific problems I have encountered are: (1) corrupti...

Re: no network on reboot

You don't need a static ip address for your alarmp. I'm pretty sure the recent image comes with avahi enabled, so the machine you're sshing from should be able to resolve the name by nss-mdns. At a console on your Pi: $ systemctl | grep -i mdns avahi-daemon.service loaded active running Avahi mDNS/D...

Re: Pidora 18 gets F18 updates

The OSTEP Team has released a bunch of fedora 18 updates for Pidora 18. This is not all of them, but more and more updates are being built each day. yum clean all yum update The update fails: --> Processing Dependency: libpcre.so.0 for package: slang-slsh-2.2.4-4.fc18.armv6hl --> Finished Dependenc...

Re: Pidora HowTo ?

Most of us are familiar with the Debian way of doing things, but Fedora/Pidora is like a whole 'nother OS...! [/quote] Interesting. I had assumed that most of us in this forum used Pidora because we were familiar with and/or preferred the RedHat/Fedora way of doing things -- but were perhaps unfami...

Re: Pidora HowTo ?

Hello fellow Pidora users I am going to write a few articles on how to do different things. Using the Pidora distro, I figured I should start by finding out what you guys really want to know how to do and go from there so post some replies with your ideas and I will start making them. Why not creat...

Is the ETA for f19 weeks or months away?

How To Setup xrdp (How To Use mstsc/rdesktop)

There is a little bit more to setting up xrdp for Pidora-18 / rpfr-f18 than just the yum install. In case this saves somebody else some time, the following command sequence works for me for both Pidora 18 and the previous rpfr-f18. su - echo PREFERRED=startxfce4 > /etc/sysconfig/desktop yum install ...

Re: startx in pidora

Code: Select all

su -
echo PREFERRED=startxfce4 > /etc/sysconfig/desktop
This is also a prerequisite for using xrdp.

Re: Fedora failed to load

Yes..... Checked md5 so thats not the issue. But did you try to browse the boot partition on the SD card after you installed the image? Seemns there something wrong with the fedora build.... But other people on this forum are running it. I'm running it on two Rev 1 Model B using 4GB and 8GB cards.

Re: Fedora failed to load

If you have access to a Linux machine, mount the SD card and attempt to browse "boot" and "rootfs". If you can't browse boot and rootfs, then you haven't successfully installed the rpfr-f18-final.img on your SD card. If you're using Windows, you should at least be able to browse "boot" on the SD car...

Re: Can not get a good SD

Try a different / smaller card?

I've successfully installed and run rpfr-f18-final.img on several brands (Sandisk, Sony, Kingston) , sizes (4GB and 8GB), and classes (4 and 10) of SD cards on two Rev 1 Model B boards.

Don't have a 16GB card here to try.

Re: Minimum gpu_mem setting for F18

This is because Seneca have omitted the cutdown firmware files start_cd.elf and fixup_cd.dat. If you download those yourself you can boot with gpu_mem=16 like on any normal distro. https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/tree/master/boot Thanks for the tip. The following worked for me: cd /boot su ...

Minimum gpu_mem setting for F18

In case it saves someone else some time, by experiment I've found that the minimum bootable /boot/config.txt gpu_mem setting for F18 on my 256MB Pi is 24:

Code: Select all

# /boot/config.txt
...
gpu_mem=24
This gives:

Code: Select all

$ cat /proc/meminfo
MemTotal:         227432 kB

I see there is (and have tried) a new (March 8) fedora image at: http://scotland.proximity.on.ca/raspberrypi/raspberrypi-fedora-remix/18/images/rpfr-f18-final.zip but I don't see any announcement or help list links at http://zenit.senecac.on.ca/wiki/index.php/Raspberry_Pi_Fedora_Remix Is there any "...
