Re: How to know how many write cycle of an SD card ?

I've used multiple sd cards for about 5 years now. I ran linux off them extensively, had swap partitions, etc, and they have yet to fail. Same thing about a few 4gb compact flash cards I have. I did have a few cards fail on me but they were used very very intensively, think running a mysql database ...

Re: My Raspberry PI with Heatsink and Fan

What is the reasoning behind adding a fan to the pi? Wouldn't a heatsink be enough to cool it down? Mine runs at pretty cool temperatures even though it's overclocked to 1ghz and sometimes under continuous cpu usage, and it has no heatsink or fan whatsoever. I'm just curious what you could gain from...

Re: Is 512mb a good thing?

I think more ram is always a good thing, as it is not something that breaks code compatibility or any compatbility at all, only allows you to run more apps at once (and possibly ram-heavy things a lot smoother (java, web browser, etc). It's not like they just switched cpu architecture or something e...

Re: Using > 256MB memory splits on 256MB board?

to start of, the pi needs the gpu to boot, so it needs a bit of memory dedicated to it.
then you have the issue of making the pi try to allocate 256mb to the gpu and 256mb to the ram... won't work, but even if they did make a split of 256/0, it would not boot

Re: Is 512mb a good thing?

512mb of ram is going to smooth out things like xbmc and desktop applications a lot, since now we'll be able to use a proper ram/gpu split that won't leave us with nearly no ram to use. I don't think it's a bad thing in any way, current and future apps will stay compatible with 256 model(s). Anythin...

Re: Which Dev-Board for me?

https://www.miniand.com/products/Hackberry%20A10%20Developer%20Board This board with debian or ubuntu on it might be more what you're looking for in terms of power (faster cpu, 1gb of ram (good for java), etc), also pretty cheap, only $65 (plus it comes with wifi, 4gb internal memory and a power ada...

Re: Fantasy RPi 2 spec (what's yours?)

I would be really happy with the pi if they changed the cpu to a cortex-a8(or up, but a8 is fine) and boosted the ram to 512mb, the rest is all fine for me
