Re: DC Barrel to Micro USB

ahhh just realised why I am getting errors now. I've managed to brick both my SD cards somehow. It did boot up succesfully on the first attempt but it rebooted and on the reboot it started giving me the errors. Why cant I run the Rpi without a powered hub? I don't even have peripherals attached to i...

Re: DC Barrel to Micro USB

I agree, I already have a working setup where the power supply is plugged straight into the USB hub and from there a USB to micro USB cable to the power socket on the Pi. However it negates the purpose of my little experiment. I don't see why I can't do what I'm aiming to achieve? What does the pow...

Re: DC Barrel to Micro USB

What are you powering "through" the RPi USB, GPIO and HDMI Connectors? On this occasion I want to power the RPi using the micro USB port (not been able to do this without a USB hub which is what I'm trying to do now essentially). Connected to the Pi is the HDMI for the screen, RJ45 for ethernet, an...

DC Barrel to Micro USB

Hi All, After my last thread I posted about having power issues, I managed to solve it by buying a better power supply for my USB powered hub. I've been wondering this week, if I could use the Pi without the hub and just power it using the micro usb. Unfortunately the existing power supply (5v 3A) h...

Re: No HDMI output on TV but fine on another?

SOLVED! I followed Abishur's solution and it worked first time. thanks guys now I can enjoy my raspbmc in the bedroom :D I wonder if its worth mentioning. Beforehand I tested the video with the RCA cable and the display worked straight away without having to amend config.txt however my TV said "Vide...

Re: No HDMI output on TV but fine on another?

Wow what a response! thanks for everyone's input so far! As soon as I get a chance I will try changing some of the settings, still waiting for the RCA cable from ebay. However have tried raspbian to make sure its not something wrong with the distro I'm using, and same issue no change. I did notice l...

No HDMI output on TV but fine on another?

Hi All, I have loaded my Pi with Raspbmc which works flawlessly on my samsung TV in my living room via HDMI. However I tried it on my Technika TV in the bedroom via HDMI and the TV says "NO SIGNAL". I am using the same HDMI cable with both TV's, a 5v 3A PSU via a USB hub and approved keyboard and mo...

Re: Using Raspberry Pi to control my AC via infrared

I know this is slightly different but I have LIRC installed on my Ubuntu PC at home with a generic MCE USB receiver bought from ebay. If it's possible to install this on the Pi You can ask LIRC to learn the IR signal from your remote through the receiver, then you can make a .sh script to emitt the ...

Re: No power to keyboard

Maybe he can post details of the hub and PS when he gets it, as well as the obvious pass/fail. :) Sorry forgot to mention, the power supply with the USB hub was a 5v 1A. On a separate note I'm having a punt at getting raspbmc working. So, now I'm binning off both power supplies in favour of a newly...

Re: No power to keyboard

Hi All, It's been a while since I wrote in this thread however I finally got round to testing the powered USB hub I bought from ebay. The first thing I noticed was that the hub will power the raspberry pi without the original micro usb 5v 1A power supply but the keyboard and mouse will not work unle...

Re: No power to keyboard

Thanks El_Presidente sounds like some excellent advice. I'm going to try the USB hub approach first and post back when I get some results as I still need some practice with my soldering skills (not the steadiest hand!). Love the signature btw, what sort of man DOESN'T put a tea cosy on their head? :D

Re: No power to keyboard

Maybe he can post details of the hub and PS when he gets it, as well as the obvious pass/fail. :) I made a school boy error on this one, I impulsively bought it without looking at the specs for the PSU. In fact on the listing it doesn't give the specs for it. Will let everyone know if it works of c...

Re: No power to keyboard

I didn't think that I needed a powered USB hub since the keyboard only draws 75mA! It should work without one.

Anyway at this point I may as well give it a try, bought this hub off ebay

I'll give it a go and post back if it sorts everything out.

Re: No power to keyboard

Hi everyone, Got my replacement raspberry pi today only to find that it has the SAME problem! I'm guessing its not faulty soldering like Bigally suggested above. The kernel panic message still occasionally comes up. I've already established that the mouse and the keyboard draw less than 140mA, I'm s...

Re: No power to keyboard

Others are having the same problem it is not a power supply problem please read http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=8387 The most recent batch of Pis or at least some of them, seem to have a problem with the USB ports which may be linked to poor soldering on X1. No number of powe...

Re: No power to keyboard

The dell keyboard is RT7D50, I'm sure it doesn't have a USB hub. but it isnt listed in any lists

I've read the list of working keyboards and I possess the "Logitech EX100 Cordless Desktop, wireless keyboard and mouse" which also doesnt work.

Could this be a software error? Sorry to be a pain!

Re: No power to keyboard

I don't think it's a power issue. On the bottom of the keyboard it says 5V 75mA, so it should be adequet? I got a kernel panic message earlier too.

Any other ideas?

Re: No power to keyboard

Also. I'm not sure if this is worth mentioning but I have tried two sets of wireless keyboard/mouse sets, none of which work either. Re: No power to keyboard

No - the problem is that the USB ports on the Pi are limited to 140 mV. You need to either use a keyboard that does not need more power than that, or connect it via a powered hub. Ok I follow now. Can you either recommend a keyboard that does not require a hub or a powered hub that will facilitate ...

Thanks for your reply. I am using a 5V 1A power supply, I read that this was sufficient? Does this mean I need a better power supply?

No power to keyboard

Hi All, I hope someone can help, I'm getting a bit frustrated. Got my raspberry pi a week or two ago and decided to set it up last night, downloaded the debian6 image from the raspberry pi website, wrote .img file to 4gb Sandisk SD card via my Ubuntu PC and seems to boot up fine. However when it ask...
