Ctrl+C http://superuser.com/questions/262942/w ... 948#262948 Thank you! Just typing the name of the app with no options will give a list of all the options available. We know that --help, -? and -n do not work correctly, just to give you a heads up. They have been fixed, just need to get a few mor...

Raspivid commands

Hiya! Just got the camera module today and have tried both still images and streaming to my laptop. Both worked fine, except when I tried to stop the stream. I haven't been using linux long and when I had googled long enough I just did ctrl+z. Which froze raspivid and then when I tried a reboot the ...

Swedish hallonpajer!

(hallonpaj = raspberry pie) Let's see if we can get a Swedish raspberry-thread going. Seeing as there are categories where people are speaking other languages I would think it should be okay if someone wants to speak Swedish in here, but since the Swedish people are known for speaking such good Engl...

Re: Create new user - copy from pi?

It turns out I had very few files that I needed to copy, so I just used my FTP-program to move them between the folders.

But I would still like to know how I would go about cloning a user and there might be others how need an answer to the question. :)

Create new user - copy from pi?

I've created a new user and am planning on deleting the default pi user in time. The thing is I started playing with the pi before I realized it would be a good idea to change the user and now I guess I have things installed/files and stuff on the default user. Is there any way to just clone everyth...

su is not ssh you wont be able to ssh in as root but you can still issue su commands unless you have altered /etc/sudousers Yes I know that su is not ssh, but am I right in thinking that su is the same as logging in as root? And another question: :) If I change the port for SSH from 22 to something...

Re: complete dope needs help

SSH won't be enabled by default so using SSH to get in and navigate around probable won't work. I would wait until you have the keyboard, but worst case scenario would be that you would have to leave the Pi on at the config-screen until you can plug it in, so go ahead.

Re: SSH through internet

I tried going into the ssh_config file and changing PermitRootLogin yes to no. Then I restarted the sshd service, but I can still use su - and the password to get root access. When I open the config-file I can see that it has saved. I also tried restarting the Pi. What am I doing wrong? ;) Edit: Nev...

Re: Send your IP's to a google spreadsheet

Cool!

I wrote a script that listens to an email and if I send a mail with a command I get the current IP back :-)

Re: Reading root/pi user mail

You did nothing wrong. The package name is wrong. Try sudo apt-get install mailutils That installs a few other things too: http://packages.debian.org/stable/mail/mailutils (And su may be standard on Debian, but sudo is standard on Raspbian, where root has a disabled password by default.) Thank you!...

Re: Reading root/pi user mail

Result both with;
su - apt-get install mail
and
sudo apt-get install mail

Code: Select all

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package mail
Hmm. I wonder what I'm doing wrong.

Re: Reading root/pi user mail

You don't read your email that way -- you use a mail program. But I would have thought /var/spool/mail/pi should be owned by pi. So at least the file manager method should have worked. The command "cat /var/mail/pi" (if you're right about the filename) or "cat /var/spool/mail/pi" (if I'm right) sho...

Re: Reading root/pi user mail

I also tried going "su -" and entering my set root password, but I'm still getting permission denied on both /var/mail/root and /pi. Sorry I posted a reply, couldn't find where to edit the first post.

Reading root/pi user mail

Hi! I just bought a RPi this week and I am loving it. Trying out some features and some python programming and since I put in a cron job my console window is trying to to tell me I have new mail in /var/mail/pi and /var/mail/root, but when I try to access it by typing /var/mail/pi into the console (...
