Re: Minidlna - again...

It's here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MiniDLNA and it says, "MiniDLNA scans your Media_Collection at startup and creates or updates database". Quite obviously it doesn't, as has been pointed out. It seems to be a glaring error to me as on a restart surely you'd want it to scan/check? Anyho...

Re: Minidlna - again...

try a cron job to force the re-scan? I guess it would work, but it seems hugely overkill for something that is allegedly done by the minidlna service already - if it was working properly of course! As the task is to get minidlna to check at startup, the solution would seem to be more along the line...

Re: Minidlna - again...

Thanks for the further information. However, the lack of "rescanning" at startup seems to be illogical to me. I suppose if, like you, people kept the pi on 24/7 then the only way new stuff can get on teh media drives is in "online" mode and therefore inotify will work. I'm curious how yours happens ...

Re: Minidlna - again...

Further experimentation seems to show that the inotify system works ONLY IF the media folder is changed/updated whilst the minidlna service is running. If I stop the service and upload new files into the folder (USB stick) and start it again, or boot the pi up with new media on the USB stick then th...

Re: Minidlna - again...

...I spoke too soon. I added new music to the usb stick whilst it was turned off then powered it all back up again. Have had "tail" running on the log for half an hour now, no signs of a rescan and the new music folder I added is being ignored entirely when I view it through bubbleupnp. This is driv...

Re: Minidlna - again...

It seems that deleting the files.db and allowing minidlna to recreate it has sorted the immediate problem and it does, after 5 minutes, do the rescan if any items in the media directory have changed. However... I'd still like to know if there's any way I can set the system up so that whenever the pi...

Re: Minidlna - again...

I have no idea how to find out what user minidlna is running, sorry. Although I tried "top -u minidlna" and that returned a process of minidlna running, so probably that! in minidlna.conf my media_dir is /media/usb0, db_dir is /home/pi/.minidlna, log_dir is /var/log, log_level is info, inotify=yes a...

Minidlna - again...

I know this is an ongoing issue, but I cannot get the daft programme to rescan. I have followed every tutorial online known to man about inotify and it still just won't work. As the Pi is being used in-car and is frequently turned off and back on, I'm happy to have a command line option added to for...

Video glitches in XBMC when Pi "does" something

Very weird... Pi signal to tv (hdmi) is perfect until XBMC interface loads (openelec). At that point the video starts glitching. When at a menu and the pi is inactive, it's fine. As soon as I step from one menu item to another, I get two "glitches" as the Pi does something and the screen goes blue m...

Re: Mounting random USB drives to a mountpoint

Since Linux, unlike Windows, does not use drive letters (A, B, C ... Z) there probably isn't a "one for all" solution for what you're hoping to do. However take a look at my "Multiple USB Sticks" suggestions at http://www.cpmspectrepi.webspace.virginmedia.com/raspberry_pi/MoinMoinExport/MultipleUsb...

Mounting random USB drives to a mountpoint

I want to run the Pi as a mini media server/nas using SAMBA and minidlna. Once I have a working setup I'd like to copy that image onto a few sd cards to give to my friends who want to do the same thing. However I've found from playing around this morning that the way that different usb drives identi...

RTL8188CUS and AP/hotspot mode

I'm baffled. I specifically went out and bought a nano wifi dongle with the RTL8188CUS chipset after seeing the forum posts on configuring and getting this working. lsusb says: Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0bda:8176 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. That's utterly brilliant and was just what I was looking for. I intended originally to have the Pi working as a combined media center/NAS and sourcing a 7" touch screen to use, but the whole position with touchscreen control right now is just a nightmare (only made easier by spending too much on scr...
