Re: Direction for making an information display

Pi running Raspbian Lite with a 120gb SSD for the OS is a little faster, since you are going to be using it as a server. Kind of confused where updating it with sales items and having on the tv is for. Are you planning on using this in a store or just for personal use. its for a pub, so business us...

Re: Direction for making an information display

You could always get a Pi Zero, cheap and faster than the old Pi1's (is this an early PiB before it got the 40 pins? Or of course the Pi3 itself is a lot faster and has WiFi inbuilt for your network. But it's not something I have done, maybe this kweb https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.ph...

Re: Direction for making an information display

Did you have a look into ready-made solutions like info-beamer and pi-presents ? They have free versions , but that obviously means you have to invest your own time to set them up and maintain them. ghans thankyou thank you, these are exactly the type of program i am looking for. these give me a ba...

Re: Direction for making an information display

nope!

i swear everything on the pi is just overtly hard work.

i have lamp installed, and the test debian page is up, but whilst i have the idea i just have no idea how to create a decent looking page with a database, nor how to make a backend interface.

how can i find someone to do this stuff?

the cheap chinese 4gb cards are just less than 4gb, the sandisk 4gb cards are apparently fine.

8gb cards from now on!

Pixel updated, not booting correctly

hi, i have a fairly clean install of rasbian pixel installed, and was fully updated and upgraded, and now when i boot up, after the pixel splash screen, I'm presented with a black screen, a moveable mouse pointer and chromium loads up with a duckduckgo search in incognito for raspberry pi. i can't s...

after a brief flitter... processing is hideously slow to use and implement. although on the mac, it does make light work of what i generally want to do.

any thoughts?

Direction for making an information display

hi, i have the pi (first one) and i wish to use it to have an updatable notice board as such. the unit will be plugged into a tv via hdmi, and will display a list of ales that are currently on sale. i would like to be able to update the list, using a phone / tablet / webpage so will incorporate some...

Re: Jessie Lite Install Fails

And here strikes my curiousness. Now I have a Jessie (full) install on a 4gb card and I can see the 60mb partition boot, and disk utility tells me there's a partition. This works fine in the pi. Every iteration I do of Jessie lite ends up with an invalid disk message, and does not work on the pi. As...

Jessie Lite Install Fails

hey, I'm using mac, os 10.11.6, and have downloaded the newest jessie lite. i followed the OS X install instructions, over and over, but every time the jessie lite was installed on the sdcard, i would get an error on the mac proclaiming that it wasn't initialised, and thus plugging into the pi would...

"Stream" webcam locally

Hi,

im trying to view what the usb camera connected is viewing, but i dont want to go to a webpage to do it. just to open box and have the footage showing. is this possible?

all the web browsers seem to massively underperform on the pi, and it seems like an overhead that isnt needed.

thanks

all the packages that i've installed so far, i've been using cd to get to the base level before installing. are all these packages in the right places, or will this cause me new issues? i think the issue files mainly (except that test.jpeg image) are the ones i've downloaded manually, and will use t...

im sure someone more helpful may be able to do better, and i don't know how to recreate your problem, but can you see the task manager (usually at the bottom right of the screen?) if you can see that, you can right click and hit panel settings, and then use that to move the screen around, resize, et...

Re: Permissions? permissions! Permissions!!!

ahh, yeah, I have been working on this for a while now, so i found the wonderful world of setting permissions. I set the chmod to the offending files; the pink test.jpeg and the salmon tar.gz file, plus the RPi.GPIO-0.3.1a zip and folder the bit that is confusing, is that the issue I was fighting wi...
