Re: MQTT Timeout

Another update. After much more testing. Dougie was correct. The broker was working perfectly well. The problem was with PubSubClient on the Arduino. It was not staying connected. My work-around was, when the RFID card was swiped, connect to the broker, deliver the Json packet, then disconnect from ...

Re: MQTT Timeout

Update.
After a little more testing, the Raspberry Pi GUI client does in fact timeout when connected via WAN.
Now I don't know where I'm at. LOL.

Re: MQTT Timeout

It is working when I connect via the LAN but when I connect via the WAN, I get the timeouts and disconnects. From testing I have done today, it seems the problem is in the Arduino PubSubClient library somewhere. The Raspberry Pi which just displays the card data, I connected that via the WAN and no ...

SD stands for Secure Digital.

I'm 'guessing' what you see are header or encryption bytes for the security aspect of the card.

Correction.....

I am getting messages in the mosquitto.log file corresponding to timeouts and stuff.
If I it was a problem with the wifi code, surely it wouldn't get as far as the broker ?

Re: MQTT Timeout

OK. I upgraded to mosquitto 1.4.14 and rebooted. Nothing would connect. I then did: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade ..and rebooted again. Everything connected as it did with the old version. /etc/mosquitto/mosquitto.conf Is exactly as you said it would be. /etc/mosquitto/conf.d/w...

MQTT Timeout

Hi all. I have a project where my local pub has a loyalty scheme going on. Currently, the customers have a card. When they buy a pint, they have their card stamped, when they have 9 stamps, they get a free pint. The staff are forever forgetting to order new cards and ink for the stamps. So, here is ...

Re: Best way to learn Python?

Hi, and welcome to the forums. There is no 'best' language, it depends what you are planning to do. Is English the best spoken language? Not if you are planning a life in Venezuela (or Wales ;)). The best way to learn is come up with an idea for a project and work through it. Maybe the language is s...

Re: 'Antique' Televisions with a Pi.

It's a cool idea. Have you thought about ripping out the internals and replacing the screen with a more modern screen? I would love to give it a try but it seems 'classic' TV sets are now very few and far between. Some local 'junk' stores have them by they are charging the Earth for them because the...

What happens if you change :

f.write(str(gpsd.fix.longitude) + ',' + str(gpsd.fix.latitude) + "\n")

To:

f.write("1.111,2.222\n")

?

Re: SIM800 GSM modem SMS receive and Internet

Don't wait continuously to receive SMS.
Instead, check often if the SMS is queued and unread. Read it, then act on it. Maybe then delete it.
It's a long time since I used GSM Modems and can't remember the exact command to check for SMS but should have some code somewhere.

Or get together with a few others on the forums and create a syndicate.
All chip in a fair share.
Those who want a few PIs at a good price can have them.
Those who want a small profit for a small investment can have that too.
Just an idea.

Ah yes!
The smell of a new circuit board is like the smell of a new girlfriend.

Or...Login as PI. Then:

sudo nano /etc/kbd/config

Scroll down and find 'BLANK_TIME=30'.
Change it to 'BLANK_TIME=0'.

Scroll down and find 'POWERDOWN_TIME=30'.
Change it to 'POWERDOWN_TIME=0'.

Press CTRL + X, Press Y. Then press ENTER to save the changes.

Do you mean a wired ethernet connection, or do the Pi's need to be wired together some other way?
