Re: Password change. SAFE ?

Hi, The Oracle application does periodically ask users to change their passwords, so there is nothing to worry about (assuming you visited the site directly and not via an email link as @gkaiseril mentions). The correct link is https://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=81290:LOGIN_DESKTOP:0:::::&tz=1:00 .

Re: New project: Make an Initial State dashboard for weather data

Hi,

Your Python code is missing the line:

Code: Select all

import json
which imports the library used to unravel the .json file in which the credentials are stored. Add that to the top with the other import lines.

Re: Weather Underground guide now available

@manuelfraga it is always a good idea to keep any Internet-connected computer up-to-date in terms of software patches.

I'd recommend trying:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade -y
and then trying to install the Python libraries again.

Can you post the contents of your /etc/rc.local file and the output from:

It sounds like the interrupt daemon might be being started twice. Which method did you use to install the weather station software (or did you use the pre-installed SD card image)?

Re: access through School proxy

Try installing the httplib Python2 library:

Code: Select all

sudo pip install httplib
http.client is the Python3 library - it looks like you're still using the older (Python2) version of the Weather station software.

Re: A few problems with the weather station

Hi, 1. Yes, assuming you completed a normal installation, log_all_sensors runs every 5 minutes and records its data into the MySQL/MariaDB database. Then upload_to_oracle runs twice a day to upload the data that has been recorded since it it last ran. You can adjust these timings through your cronta...

It may be that your school network sits behind a proxy filter that is blocking access. Perhaps you could ask your network administrator for advice?

Re: Automated upload to WU - Crontab

You seem to have a few entries there - which task is each one intended to perform? If you're uploading to Initial State and WU, the recommended form is to have a single modified log_all_sensors.py file that handles the taking of measurements and the uploading. These two entries will try to run at ex...

Yes, the Met Office WOW is very similar to Weather Underground PWS. My Weather station uploads to both!

We might add a learning resource like the one for WU in the near future.

It is possible that there will be a commercial version of the kit available in future but we do not have any confirmed plans for this yet. However in 2018 we will be launching a 'Build Your Own Weather Station' guide which will be based on readily available components and parts.

Re: ERROR with code sudo pip3 install mysqlclient

The original command you were trying should work, and is the recommended way of installing this library for the Weather Station. If you're using the latest Raspbian build then it should use PiWheels to download the library. Are your students using the one-line installer or following the manual step-...

Are you talking about the difference between two weather stations in the same rough location?

Or do you mean that the values you're sending to WU don't match the ones you're logging to Oracle?

Re: Help with Fetching the Weather lesson

You're not doing anything wrong, you just need to perform the next step: Save and run your code. You can type stations into the Python shell to have a look at the data. It still looks pretty ugly. Try typing pprint(stations) and see what happens. You should see a huge list of Weather Stations dictio...
