Are you referring to the ones marked TP1 and TP2? If so, I'm not sure I'd use them as mounting holes, not with anything that conducts anyway!

The letters won't appear, not even as blobs or asterisks. Just type blind and press enter. As long as you can spell raspberry and you haven't got a keyboard that suffers from the repeating key problem it will work.

Just installed and had a play - much faster than Squeeze. Having a few problems with Samba (which may be more to do with me than with any bugs). One thing I'd like to do is to stop it logging in to the pi account automatically - how do I fix that?

The last line is your clue. Try hanging the gps out of the window, or maybe even out of the window in another room. It can take a long time to get a first fix, so you could also leave that script running for maybe an hour.

Don't know how to do this, but if you post back showing what you did to read the data I'll try the same on mine and tell you what I see.
If it was me I'd install gpsd just to get it set up first. You don't have to continue using it.
