I did it a different way. I simply added the following lines to /etc/network/interfaces: auto wlan0 iface wlan0 inet static address 192.168.0.21 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.0.1 wpa-essid not-telling-you wpa-psk not-telling-you-this-either That was it.
