Great suggestion! I've used this one before http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/e ... ND/2785382 , but that one seems to be the exact same one used on the RPis.

Hi, I'm very familiar with SMD soldering, so that shouldn't be an issue. Actually, that's one of the reasons I'm looking for this connector in particular: it is easier to solder than other micro USB connectors I've worked with. Hi Dirk,

Thank you for the recommendation, but I would rather replace it by the exact component. I really like that connector in particular and I'm planning to use it in some other products. It is pretty rugged and the USB pins are longer than most connectors, making this one easier to solder.
