I'm planning on building one of the lapdock setups like that too and I can't wait! If you decide to attempt it, though, order your cables and adapters early. Some of the necessary adapters seem like nothing unusual, but are actually really hard to acquire. I have a female micro usb to male usb adapt...

Do you have your R-pi in a really enclosed space? I'm thinking maybe heat could be the issue, but I think unless you have yours in a really unusual enclosure then it would be really difficult to reach a critical temperature. Are you overclocking?
