Re: Intel 8086 CPU

<t>I miss the days of address and data buses, I certainly don't use them on the embedded micro-controller designs I do now.  For what it is worth the 8086 and its family of parts (8088, 80C86, V20 etc.) used a segmented address scheme. The ALU was only 16 bits so to address the the full 1 Mega Byte ...

Any chance of getting a full Bill of Materials soon?  I'm su...

Re: Is Newark reputable?

<t>I've worked as an electrical engineer on small projects and one off type designs for over 25 years.  When I first started Newark was my go to source for parts, they are now my last choice, because their customer service is miserable and has been for quite some time.  I don't really care that Newa...

Re: Recycling old electronics for PI's benefit

<t>I'm planning on a similar mounting scheme only I'm going to try using nylon standoffs with notches cut halfway through them.  Standoffs already have threads cut in them so they should be easy to mount to a flat surface.  Think I'll make a few test cuts with my Dremel tomorrow, yes it would be muc...

Audio animatronics controller, already has the sound part built in and it ought to be plenty fast enough to control multiple motors.

Re: Gertboard

Gert,

Well done, and thanks from this aging hardware hacker.  Looking forward to getting this board as much as the Raspberry Pi.

Re: Expansion Boards

Will there be someplace where we will be able to post open hardware designs?  I see a lot of I'm designing a <fill in the blank> posts on the forum.  Of course the first post should be the Gert board.

Re: Ordered something else to fill the time

<t>I've picked up a PIC32 starter kit and am learning the ins and outs of the MPLAB IDE.  There is now a 28 pin dip version of the PIC32 and I think I can design a terrific interface board for the Raspberry Pi.  I'm a hardware designer and its been a long time since I really did any software develop...

Re: USB-HUB PowerSupply...

<t>Well,  it depends on how the USB hub is designed, if the power distribution is actually limited on each of the ports this will maybe work provided the 5 volt outputs are all the same, other wise you'll get current flowing from one port to another.  I'm pretty sure though to keep the cost down mos...

Re: Break out board (GPIO, SPI, I2C, and UART)

Does anybody have any experience with the T.I. TXB0108? At a casual glance it certainly looks like a solution for the buffering problem, if just a bit pricey.
