Another note:
I have never seen a usb optical mouse go south before. I had been using
the mouse for over a year and thought it was indestructible.
First step from now on: try different mouse/keyboard.

Re: jessie desktop broken
Finally sorted. A combination of "pilot error" and a flaky mouse. The gui did not appear to respond to the TAB key. Eventually i tried cmd-alt-backspace and that exited the gui, so the keyboard WAS working. Previously I used raspi-config to boot to the cli, rather than exiting from the gui...

By the way here is my source for the > 32gb statement: "NOOBS is a way to make setting up a Raspberry Pi for the first time much, much easier. You won’t need network access, and you won’t need to download any special imaging software. Just head to the downloads page, grab a copy of the NOOBS zi...

Re: jessie desktop broken
Sorry for the repetition. Posts are crossing. Thanks for replying to all this, especially given my level of irritation. When I say "Jessie is Broken", I am looking at the problem from the viewpoint of a beginner who can't get it going without considerable effort. If bringing up Jessie on a...

Re: jessie desktop broken
My understanding about the Pi is/was that it was for computer beginners who discourage easily when things don't work right out of the box. It seems to me that, if that goal is still relevant, then: 1. The instructions need to be updated to deal with the issue of memory size. It should read: "Us...

Re: jessie desktop broken
It does seem odd that there aren't more posts saying that Jessie Desktop is broken. Unless ... People with older model 2's aren't upgrading to Jessie ( I see all sorts of people having problems upgrading to Jessie from Wheezy; which probably also leads to fewer efforts to upgrade ) and testing Jessi...

Re: jessie desktop broken
The gui is the basic gui. There are no artifacts on the screen. The power supply should be ok, since it supports wheezy with gui. Unless Jessie actually draws more power for the GUI for some reason (seems VERY unlikely). Jessie download (from the official site in the last week). = 2016-05-27-raspbia...

Re: jessie desktop broken
This is why trying to deal with a problem is so difficult.. My post clearly says that my keyboard and mouse are usb devices. It clearly says that they work if booting into the CLI. So that is irrelevant to the problem. Replies that ask for all sorts of irrelevant info is just silly and irritating. T...

I have burned the latest jessie desktop to a 32GB micro sd. I boot up the pi and it goes into the gui, but it doesn't respond to my usb keyboard or usb mouse. if i use ssh to run raspi-config to boot to cli, the keyboard and mouse work fine. if I run startx from the cli, the mouse and keyboard are n...

Re: Jessie Q&A
Just downloaded the latest jessie desktop distribution and booted it up on my mod 2 B. The desktop came up but would not respond to keyboard or mouse. This seems to be because my firmware had not been updated. The solution was to ssh in and use rpi-update to update the firmware. This is not acceptab...

Re: Pi 2 Coloured Splash Screen Lock up
I have a similar problem with PI 2 and OSMC. In this case the ssd has a file "kernal7.img". Should that
be renamed to kernal.img?
