Re: safe shutdown after booting RPi OS blindly (no display, no SSH)

I would have just pulled the power and took my chances...

Ctrl + Alt + T will bring up a Lxterminal where you can 'blind type' the shutdown command.

Or

Press the [Logo Key] then [UP] arrow once then [Enter] twice.

Re: Autorun icons from GUI that use USB drives

As I already said.... Do not attempt to use the sleep command directly in autostart!
All commands in autostart are executed independently in parallel, so the sleep command will execute by itself and do nothing...

You must create a bash script then call the bash script from the autostart file.

Re: Autorun icons from GUI that use USB drives

Try adding a sleep delay. To do that you will need to create a bash script and then call the bash file from autostart: (Do not attempt to put the sleep command directly in the autostart file, it won't work...) #!/bin/bash sleep 15 # adjust time as needed lxterminal -e bash /media/pi/T200/h.sh FYI - ...

Check your router setup and make sure you have enabled a sufficiant IP address range that will handle all the devices that you expect to connect concurrently to the router.

MAC addresses are hardware dependent and do not go with the SD card.
Note that Ethernet and WIFI each have their own unique MAC address.

Re: "find" doesn't find a certain file

ok, thank you, I really didn't understand that / thing. Now I even get dozens of "no permissions" notifications (why?), but at the very end, in the last line, the searched file is found as expected! When using / if you use sudo with find you will get a lot less of the "no permissions...

Re: Application autostarting AND ~/.xsessionrc file??

Did you create the .xsessionrc file and attempt to load something with it? (From your posts not exactly clear what you did) I did some experimenting and found that it works, BUT, any program(s) started in .xsessionrc must be appended with a & character to make sure the program(s) are run in the ...

As mentioned above you need to use sudo raspi-config to set a fixed screen resolution. (Choose anything other than default monitor).

Re: Application autostarting AND ~/.xsessionrc file??

Did you ever do sudo startx?
If so try:

Code: Select all

sudo chown pi:pi .Xauthority
If that does not help then probably time to reinstall the OS.

Wolfram is part of the Mathematica software package and is not related to your issue.

I'd like to know where the documentation is for this? This is still buggy. I tried to start VNC Server using /etc/xdg/autostart/vncserver.desktop. This kept spawning new vnc server processes until the pi crashes. I'd love to know why rc.local had to be disabled to implement this. Seems shortsighted...
