Is there a network icon? If so left click on the network icon and select Turn On WIFI.
The network icon will change to WIFI icon.

Re: After Recent Update Pi Demands Login When Using RealVNC

realvnc-vnc-server on the RPi should eventually be pushed through via an apt upgrade.

The viewer for the remote system can be updated by downloading and installing the appropriate file from here: https://www.realvnc.com/en/connect/download/viewer/

Well, Python3 is what is installed on the Raspi now, the latest, and what I have been using, so yes.
Both Python 2 and Python 3 are installed by default.
When installing modules be sure to use pip3 not pip and run your code with python3 not python.

Strange one this! All the tutorials I see about sharing and mapping network drives require editing of the smb.conf file - but I can't find it! It's supposed to be in /etc/samba/ but it's not. Searching in file manager from root down results in an empty screen. Anyone want to teach a newbie how to f...

Did you make the script files executable on the RPi4?
File permissions don't follow if you used a FAT formatted USB drive to transfer the files.

Did you add the WPA supplicant file to the boot partition of your SD card before you tried to install the OS? If not you will want to re-write a fresh version and add the file.
That is not really relevant. The OP is not running 'headless'

The screen adapter board, (If one exists), will require a power supply 'brick' or 'wall wart'
If you remove the battery from the tablet motherboard you will have no way to charge it.

if you want an desktop icon to lock screen immediately then you can do this: First open nano editor like this: nano /home/pi/Desktop/lock.desktop That helps but how can I add that to the main menu or to any of the panels? If you can boot to desktop then open Lxterminal and do: sudo passwd pi That will allow you to change the password without knowing the original pw. Test by logging out of desktop and back in.
