Boot failure after fstab NFS mount bind - seeking help

I am attempting to start to build a basic NAS and am trying to "mount --bind" a folder on a USB drive vis fstab. However at boot time the log shows after it mounts the USB drive, it then fails to mount the "binded" folder with error message [FAILED] Failed to mount /NFS-export/mp4library Dependency ...

Re: Plex + NAS

Recently I set up a new rpi to be my NAS.
I'm seeking to do the same thing, not with a pre-packaged NAS o/s.

May I ask what did you do (tools etc) and how did you do it ?

Thanks.

how to setup a Pi4 as a NAS

Hello. Seeking the "latest" info on how to setup a Pi4 as a NAS, with 2 attached externally-powered USB3 drives. I guess using "raw" tools, if possible, rather than using some form of "all-in-one o/s build". Why, you may ask ? I have ordered a Google "ChromeCast with Android TV" and am disappointed ...

Re: STICKY: Raspberry Pi OS (64 bit) beta test version feedback

Just a thought. I notice in the announcement post https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=117&t=275370 there is a link to download the 64bit OS: https://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspios_arm64/images/raspios_arm64-2020-05-28/2020-05-27-raspios-buster-arm64.zip Looking at https://downloads...

Re: STICKY: Raspberry Pi OS (64 bit) beta test version feedback

You had an answer to repository question above, but in a nutshell it will install packages from Debian Buster ARM64. Also this release is BETA, which means it is not ready for prime time, possibly unstable, possibly broken, that is why we have this long post so TESTERS can test and report issues. T...

Re: STICKY: Raspberry Pi OS (64 bit) beta test version feedback

Thanks. Is there a "beginners thread" for 64bit OS installation and usage, so I can ask further basic questions there ? Or should I just post over in the beginners forum ? eg basic questions like :- having installed 64bit OS from scratch, when I go to sudo apt install something and it can't find a 6...

Re: STICKY: Raspberry Pi OS (64 bit) beta test version feedback

Hello. A dummy's question: I am wondering if it's safe enough to start trying to use the 64bit Raspberry Pi O/S on a Pi4 8Gb. I have a composite app which installs the following using "sudo apt -y install" :- - Apache 2.4.* with related optional bits and ssl/tls (using a self-signed certificate) - P...

...returning to the OPs question and later clarification! I would suggest that for the kind of application they're looking at (monitoring hard disks in the background) uncompiled python would be fine. The overhead is tiny if the application is dormant most of the time. IMO it's not worth thinking a...

Re: is it possible to compile a Python program into an executable ?

As always, we'd need to know why the OP wants/needs to "compile". What exactly does that word mean to him, and what is the long-range goal? Usually, when people say "compile", they really mean "obfuscate". No. I'm an ancient programmer. I did mean compile into an executable so that no interpreters ...

is it possible to compile a Python program into an executable ?

Hello.

Is it possible to compile a Python program into an executable ?

If so I'm tempted to look at and see if it would be possible to port hd-idle (it's go code) https://github.com/adelolmo/hd-idle to python3.

Thanks.

Not the same, but similar in nature to my USB3 external disk issue:

Oh I thought you meant the hybrid boot-to-USB thing.
I needed 2x USB3 slots for the hard drives, so had to revert to plain SD card booting.

Re: Pi4 8Gb enters "emergency mode" on reboot

It's a while since I played with this stuff as the replacement USB hard-drive on my old 2014 B+ doesn't suffer with the same spin-up delays like the one it replaced. That system has /boot on an SDCard and rootfs on a USB drive. I tried the sd-card boot to USB thingy then had to back-out to stock SD...

Try adding

Code: Select all

rootwait
to the end of /boot/cmdline.txt.
Thank you. I checked and rootwait was already present.

In case you missed it, I edited and added more test results to the post just prior.

Re: Pi4 8Gb enters "emergency mode" on reboot

I swapped the USB3 plugs so the 10Tb is in the bottom USB3 slot and the other is in the top USB3 slot. It made no difference. OK, so, then I commented-out the 8Tb drive in fstab and powered it off, leaving just the 10Tb powered on. Same behaviour arose with just the 10Tb alone. The 8Tb had been in u...

Re: Pi4 8Gb enters "emergency mode" on reboot

Thank you. I tried both at the same time - it looks like "nofail" caused one of the drives to remain unmounted whereas I need it mounted. So I removed the nofail and upped the timeout to 3 minutes, and it still fails per the first post. Interestingly, power-off and power-on and it works, whereas "su...

Hello. I have a Pi4 8Gb and whenever I do a sudo reboot now it shuts down OK and then during boot it frequently enters "emergency mode". Pic attached.
