Re: How to set up the Raspberry Pi as an NFS server

I tried samba and all though it worked nice on the local network if I wanted to connect from anywhere else like a friends house I needed to do it via a VPN. Both worked on the RPi but it was a bit to much. It was recommended to use NFS and have my drive formatted to ext I've now got the NFS server r...

Re: How to set up the Raspberry Pi as an NFS server

Thanks for this. I have my NFS server up and running great. I do have a some problems though i'm hopping you might be able to help with. I have 3 folders I want to share to 2 other Rpi's. 1 is local the other is at my girlfriends house. I have done the following in the /etc/exports file sudo nano /e...

Re: slow streaming on VPN using 3G time-outs with wireless

Thanks for the tip ill have a look into nfs. I've had it streaming films to my iPhone over my friends wireless and it seems to be doing ok. Just my friend seems to get a timed out message when he logs in using the file explorer app in iPhone. I've overclocked it and I have some copper heat sinks in ...

slow streaming on VPN using 3G time-outs with wireless

So from the title I guess you can see what I'm doing. I got the VPN working fine with the help of a few guides on here and other places. I set up the Samba shares as per the Linux Format RPi magazine special. I set up 2 accounts on the RPi for my self and my friend. both accounts have RPi access, VP...

Re: VPN Server Tutorial

no got 3 users in the chap-secrets file. I seem to have fixed it. I edited the /etc/pptpd.conf file and instead of setting localip and remoteip I just uncommented remoteip and gave it a range from 192.168.0200 to 245 now when I get more than 1 device connecting it issues the ip correctly. I think th...

Re: VPN Server Tutorial

I used this tutorial and I'm happy to say it works great. I can connect to the VPN and access my samba shares on my iphone and stream my movies just how I wanted. Only problem I've found was this. At my friends house I connected to his wireless then connected to my VPN so I could show him the stream...

Re: Help lost all my files flashing weezy image to SD card

thanks guys It's a WD 2 TB external drive. Luckily I didn't format it just flashed the image to the drive so now it only recognises that part of the disk. the rest of the hard drive is still there 1.8tb but it was unallocated. so I've allocated it a drive letter and I'm trying to use a file recover ...

Re: totally lost with FTP access from outside my local netwo

Well the good news is my friend could connect to my RPi via SSH using XBMC on his windows laptop and see some, NOT all of the files on my drive. Thats strange in it's self but oh well I got a connection so happy there. Although FTP would still not work I take it SSHFS would allow files to be downloa...

Re: totally lost with FTP access from outside my local netwo

Thanks for the reply Gahns. I'm trying to eliminate the use of a PC and SSH file transfers come up as SFTP anyway.... at least i think i have that correct. this way the RPi can be on 24/7 and they can access any time they want Ed Ive checked ports for both FTP and SSH and they are both seen and not ...

totally lost with FTP access from outside my local network

ok so i'm trying to access my USB drive on my RPi. If I connect via SSH or FTP locally I get access to /media/USBDrive now if I try to connect using my dynamic DNS (I don't have static IP) via another PC or even my phone when I am out, I am told server denied you to change to the given directory. I'...
