Re: Reliability in production

Is the wifi dongle plugged in to a powered hub? If not then could it have drawn too much power at some point and caused the system to crash?

Epiphany-browser kiosk mode and proxy

Is there a way to get the new "Web" browser (what a dumb name....) to run in kiosk mode?

Also is there a way to specify a pac file url for it to use too?

Currently we are using chromium as our kiosk browser but would love a html5 browser so we can play video.

HDMI Issue

I have set my pi up to force hdmi output so that it always turns on properly if the screen was turned on after the pi. However this resulted in it always outputting SD rather than HD. I now have the following options set hdmi_force_hotplug=1 hdmi_drive=2 hdmi_ignore_edid=0xa5000080 hdmi_group=1 hdmi...

Re: Wayland Build

It turns out that wayland is actually present in the latest standard Rasbian build! Yey! So to run it simply issue the command sudo weston-launch (make sure you booted to console initially rather than the desktop) Now playing around with it and it does indeed seem lightning quick! I just need to do ...

Re: Wayland Build

Just found a way to possibly run a wayland build following the instructions in the link

http://wayland.freedesktop.org/raspberrypi.html

I have not tested it yet though so can't comment on whether it works or not.

Re: Wayland Build

@ jamesh

Thank you very much. I will take a look to see if I can find it. Looking forward to the new year release as it will fix one of the only major issues with the Raspberry Pi.

Re: Wayland Build

We have had zero issues with SD cards and I have personally run a PI as a database server for some time now with zero issues. However we do have a plan in place to send out imaged SD cards if such a situation occurs. Plus an application has been written to administer all the units via ssh to manage ...

Wayland Build

I read about 6 weeks ago that a wayland beta was going to be release within a couple of weeks. Does anyone know if this has happened yet? We are about to install hundreds of Pis around the country as display devices and wayland would make our lives a lot easier.

Does Wayland require new hardware or is is simply an OS upgrade which will work on current Pis?

@stephencassidy I have already tried that, however it did not prevent the screen from blanking. I can stop the screen blanking when running the raspbian gui but when chromium is running in kiosk mode outside of the gui nothing appears to work. I have repeatedly tried different configurations etc but...

changing /etc/kbd/config does not stop the screen blanking in chromium for me. I have also read many posts that also claim that this does not work for them either. The xscreensaver solution seems to be the only thing that works..... but I just need to be able to start xscreensaver before chromium st...

Re: Why so primitive?

I don't want to blame anybody who made a huge work creating Raspberry PI, I just want to ask one question: why Raspberry only supports the most simple and primitive operating systems? It can only support Raspberry's standard OS, Android 2.3 and adapted version of Linux. But this little device has a...

Web Proxy

I have a raspberry pi setup on our company network. However it can not see the internet. I have set up the proxy for apt by setting Aquire::http::proxy "http//111.111.111.111:8080/" in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/80proxy and this works fine for apt. However I have also set the following in /etc/bash.baschrc...

Ok, I have got it working. It seems you can't start chromium from bash as it there is no gui so fails. I got chromium to start on boot by adding "@chromium --kiosk www.bbc.co.uk" to the "autostart" file in /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/ One problem though..... On my home pi this works fine (not going thro...
