Re: system broken beyond repair - recovery - can't format MicroSD

yes, a power outage can corrupt storage or filesystem. it does not matter if you have an "official" power supply losing power can be bad. have you tried and used the SD Memory Card Formatter https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/index.html

Re: Best usb hub

My experience powering a RPi by a usb hub can problematic. also a lot of usb hubs are very under powered. the 2 best ones I have run into are the dlink DUB-H7 and the cyberpower CPH720P. they are a little pricey abut have decent power supplies to run USB connected devices.

Re: Which Power Supply and SD Card for RPi 3?

Hi, I am going to buying a RPi3 shortly and was wondering what the current advice is as far as what the best power supply and microSD card to get with it. I did read, sometime back, that an 8GB Samsung Evo was the way to go with the card. Is this still the case? All my current Pis have been 1B+ and...

Re: Help for Santa - What to Buy to Get Started?

Hello Mom2twoboys, Most of it has been covered. but here is my take. most kits out there come in 3 flavors; 1. basic starter kit. These kits are basically the raspberry pi, power supply, sd card (with noobs or rasbien OS), and a case. take note they may or may not have an HDMI cable. 2. media starte...

It sounds like WD is owning up to the availability issues and giving you options. I think it's shows good ownership to the issue and is protectively giving you options.

Re: information for the alimentation of raspberry pi 3

For Raspberry Pi 3 you should use a 5V 2.5 Amp power supply. you might can use 5V 2.1 Amp, but use caution if adding USB devices.

Re: Is there a way to connect SSD's to Pi?

So here is the deal.

1. Can it be done?, Yes
2. Do you or should you need use a powered hub?, I would suggest yes.
3. will it be fast?, it will not be full SSD speed at all.

have fun,

Get the RPi 3b now. it's the best one to date IMO.

I would look for kit deals that come with power supply SD card case.

for SD Card I would stick with a good name brand. Samsung and Sandisk com out on top. there is more on the subject here. http://www.jeffgeerling.com/blogs/jeff-geerling/raspberry-pi-microsd-card I don't know much about the controller part of it, I know people use all types of controllers some take m...

Most like will not have an issue as your mining units are self powered. I would suggest good power adapters for the RPis anyways.

Re: openelec bugging with a large file on ext hd

it only might be the problem, I keyed in on the "with a pixelated green" and the HDMI signal might do this, however it might be the source file. to try the HDMI signal would be almost nothing to do and see if that might fix it.

Re: openelec bugging with a large file on ext hd

sounds like you might have an HDMI signal issue, there is a line item in the config.txt (config_hdmi_boost=x) that you can boost the signal. you can do a search for HDMI signal boot to get more information.

Re: How do you power your server farm?

Look in to some of the bigger Rpi clusters and see how they do it, I think most of them made a power header for the GPIO and stacked them and use PC power supplies on the backend. The video on this one is good.

Re: play youtube videos

I am not 100% sure about this yet, but my understanding, is that video playback is not optimized within the desktop OS.and the only player that would be is omxplayer. As for browser or other video apps, it would be slow and chunky at best.
