Re: Creating the one Pi to rule them all

It's been a few weeks since I updated this so here's the current status in a sentence: I am doing too many things in parallel! The last component to arrive was the one most crucial to making this awesome, the RF tx + rx! I have hooked it up to the computer and recorded 6 frequencies (1 for eac...

Re: wicd-curses

Just wanted to confirm this worked, thank you so much Chris. For others who may be in the same position as me, I revisited my router config: LinksysE4200WifiConfig.png I decided for the sake of the occasional time I fire up the Wii to go online I'd just stick to a single authentication method for bo...

Re: wicd-curses

Thanks Chris - I'll give it a try when I get home. My wifi seems to be staying up on wicd-curses currently (I did a reboot last night and the adapter started but it's taking an age to boot now as it's still trying to use interfaces file to connect, and it's failing to DHCP) It is in mixed/dual mode,...

wicd-curses

I'm running the Adafruit occidentalis v2 image on a 32gb micro sd card and using the edimax ew-7811un to connect to my linksys e4200 but really struggling using the usual /etc/network/interfaces and wpa_supplicant method of connecting to the wifi, it lights up, it scans and shows me the network, but...

Re: Creating the one Pi to rule them all

If you want RF remote controlled (by pi) power socket you can get one for £5 from asda/morrisons and no additional hardware needed except a single wire. Software is here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=26485&start=14 I am planning to use this solution to control my boiler. B...

Re: Creating the one Pi to rule them all

It seems a very common goal - here's a brief update on where I'm at: All my electronics kit has arrived now, except the stuff from China, broke the £130 mark the other day on bits and pieces I needed to achieve this goal but to be fair some of that was because I don't own this stuff and will likely ...

Re: Creating the one Pi to rule them all

I'd just like to say, good luck and keep us posted. Your goals seem ambitious but realistic, you're not asking stupid questions, and you're making progress already on your own. Nice one. :) Cheers :), yeah I keep coming up with new bits where I think "that'd be cool" so the scope keeps growing but ...

Re: Creating the one Pi to rule them all

I ended up getting this as my webcam (with a view to keeping an eye out for a cheap Sony EyeToy the next time I spot one) as I liked the idea of it having wireless already (rules out the need to learn how to use an Xbee with a RPi for now and already can be accessed via the web for normal use and ha...

Re: Home alarm system retrofit.

I am watching this project with great interest, I've posted what I'm trying to do and would value any input from anyone with experience on the best ways or interfacing with a commercial (in my case, wireless) system!

Creating the one Pi to rule them all

Hi everyone, I've spent the Christmas break basically reading as much as I can about different Pi projects. I work in software development with a degree in programming (though my day job is QA) I've a GCSE in Electronics from 10 years ago so whilst I'm OK with software development, electronics is a ...
