Re: Hosting a forum on a pi

I don't know if this would help or not. Maybe somebody has an answer to your question there.

Re: How to update / upgrade NOOBS?

To be clear: are you having trouble flashing the new OS to the SD card, or are you trying to update it without reflashing?

Re: Portable Raspberry Pi and Arduino Kit

Oh, and for an easy battery for your pi I would recommend buying a Hydrogen Fuel-Cell pack, which will usually have a USB port since its intended for devices like smartphones/tablets. How convenient that the Pi uses the same power source!

Re: Portable Raspberry Pi and Arduino Kit

That kit looks pretty nice for a starter kit, I purchased an Arduino kit myself from a local store and it had only about 2/3rds of what I see in this one. I would recommend getting the MAKEzine starter book, that helps a lot.

Re: I need a Wireless keyboard and mouse

You can find a lot of cheap mice on Amazon. I got one for my Pi for like 90 cents and it was a Logitech model that would have cost $15 at my local computer store. As for keyboards, the cheap route would be to get a USB extension cable, which will only cost you a few dollars if that much.

Re: Totally new to computers

If you want more of a tablet and less of an e-reader... The Android Pi project has a working build of gingerbread and an "unusable" build of ICS. You could probably combine that with a touchscreen monitor, there are some in the USB variety. By bundling it with a battery, such as a hydrogen...

MC Pi edition leak over 0.1?

Does anybody know if a pi edition version beyond 0.1 has been leaked yet?

Re: Preemptive question: WiFi and wireless keyboard/mouse

For question 1, the pi includes an application to set up wifi networks. Be wary of Belkin USB hubs, as I have heard that some will appear as wireless chips to the computer instead of a USB hub. Pretty much any keyboard/mouse will do, but the wiki does have a list of non-compatible keyboards/mice.

Re: Newbie to RPi

I would reflash the card. I had the same trouble when I first got my pi, but I discovered that flashing it using win32 disk imager is going to be more likely to work than dd on Mac OS or Linux. After I did this it worked perfectly. If you own a Mac, try finding a relative that uses windows.

Re: Netflix Ready?

A set-top box would work better for this sort of thing. The Roku series of media players are the most affordable to my knowledge, if you're concerned about price.

If you're just starting to experiment with the pins I would read about it some more in the Raspberry Pi user guide.

This is probably unlikely, but has anybody ported ReactOS to the Pi?

Re: I need help building a Raspberry Pi laptop,

If you go to ars technica somebody built an Osborne-1 style laptop that has 10 hours of battery life and uses a 3d printed case, it looked pretty neat and didn't burn to much of a hole in his wallet.

Re: Pi Has Internet connection but browser wont work

Are you sure that the wifi dongle is supported? If it is, I would try side loading chromium or some other Linux browser from a Thumbdrive and see if that works. I haven't heard too much praise for midori recently.

Re: What SD Card should I buy?

Be careful ! many SD-cards from "random sellers" are actually fake! they may try to sell you a 16MB card that is actually a relabeled 4MB Chinese card, some of these don't even work with the PI or cause all kinds of problems. Especially sandisk cards are often faked. see : http://reviews....

Re: What SD Card should I buy?

It depends on what kind of Sandisk card you want to use. MicroSDHCs work great in my pi, but they can only be flashed on windows. Every card has its own ups and downs.

Re: My findings on the use of fans with the Raspberry Pi

He's right, if you open an old tower it is almost sickening how much dust and whatnot can get in there. If you have to use a fan then make an opening in your pi case (or better yet, don't use one) and then have an external fan a foot away or so. This should minimize dust, I do it with my pi and it w...
