Re: "Beginners" put off...

You can still program Windows by using the Command Prompt which is more than you can with the Pi with no index posted of the commands used on the command line. There is an index online of the commands for Bash in Linux but not all of them work on the Pi.

Re: "Beginners" put off...

Seems I have had a good reaction to my last post. I put comments on this Forum to generate feedback and to get people thinking, commenting, and hopefully moving the Pi along one push at a time. I started to interact with computers in DOS on floppy discs. Worked with Windows 3.1 all the way through t...

Re: "Beginners" put off...

If you had looked at the back cover of the `Raspberry Pi Users Guide` whilst you were in W H Smiths you would have been able to read (as I did after buying one online from the Pi store, `Raspberry Pi Users Guide is not endorsed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation`. Is that £12.99 money well spent ? Well ...

Re: "Beginners" put off...

Thanks Kole, that was a fascinating read, and you bring up some interesting points. I remember giving my father the Windows 98 tour application when I got him a computer for him to type letters on. I tried it out myself first and thought it was very good. It would tell you what to do, wait for ages...

That's about time time I started, on an acoustic coupler to the one computer serving all Birmingham schools, one terminal per school. I've got my finger out and written something. It's here . Comments and brickbats welcome. It does Python because I think it's right, and because there is no BASIC on...

10 print "Hello World" 20 goto 10 while True: print "Hello World" I just want to point out there is a huge conceptual difference between the two examples above. One is a straight forward progression with obvious location labels and simple directions to go to a location and one involves Boolean logi...

Re: "Beginners" put off...

I am not saying you should ditch the operating system for the people that are already comfortable with it. All I am arguing for is a place where youngsters can learn how a computer works in a language they understand. When you first started to learn mathematics, you first had to learn about numbers,...

Re: "Beginners" put off...

I have been arguing from the first time I turned on my new Pi that it most certainly does not do what it say`s on the tin. I am feeling like I am trying to plat fog. There seems to be no logic as far as the language used to talk to the machine is concerned. If adults find it difficult how are the ch...

Can I re-flash my preloaded SD card, whilst it is plugged into the Pi, using a USB memory stick? Maybe this would also be a solution for J-Greens

Re: "Beginners" put off...

We can't help you until you post the code that is producing the syntax error, in a [ code ] block. It's either a typing error on your part or a proof-reading error in the book. Either is possible. But until you post the code, we can not help you. I start at page 190 of the RaspberryPi Users Guide a...
