vcgencmd force_audio hdmi 1 seems to do the trick; after the first attempt of audio playback, successive audio tests are perfect. There was still a problem with espeak being juddery but I tested outputting it to a .wav file first and then playing that with aplay, where I can hear the whole test phr...

I have a very similar sounding problem and unfortunately what seems to solve it for others still leaves me with the same problem. I have a clean '2013-09-25-wheezy-raspbian.img' boot, a apt-get update + upgrade and a 'rpi-update' which updates the firmare to the same version mentioned in dom's post....

... Yes. It's not just the web cam .swf vid; break-up in the /tmp/motion images too... which is what others have said, I think. So I guess I'll have to try to learn how to write a driver for my slightly different PSEye if I'm to get anywhere with it... Either that or try and get one of these http://...

I managed to borrow someone else's PS Eye, which does look slightly different, and it works fine at 640x480, unlike mine. They are different models and different manufacturers, which seems a bit odd. Mine is entirely black with numbers labelling the two lens positions whereas the one I borrowed has ...

I managed to get motion working with my pi and playstation eye remarkably easily. However, it does not work at 640 x 480. One thing I note is that others have only mentioned running the motion command as non-superuser. If I do so, it reports the following - [0] could not open configfile /etc/motion/...
