Re: IngoKnito's Pi1+USB+Samba Problem

Hi all, I swear on my grandmothers beard that I had the problem as described above, and it persisted across reboots, cable changes and whatnot, but now it's gone. The Raspberry is up and running without interruption since my last post, and I can happily copy files of any size. I'm a bit at a loss, b...

Re: IngoKnito's Pi1+USB+Samba Problem

Hi DirkS, agreed, same manufacturer does not mean it will work... was just a remark, not an expectation. However, things sre getting weirder: I re-attached the allegedly faulty bridge for gathering troubleshooting data, and - lo and behold - error's gone! Copy works like a charm. Two differences to ...

Re: IngoKnito's Pi1+USB+Samba Problem

Hi all, OK, I can confirm it is the USB<->SATA bridge. Put in the old one, and not only the data transfer rate is higher, it also copies the file rock-solid. Funny thing: same manufacturer (dmesg): [ 4.093024] usb 1-1.2: new high-speed USB device number 4 using dwc_otg [ 4.234471] usb 1-1.2: New USB...

Re: IngoKnito's Pi1+USB+Samba Problem

Hi all, I am facing the same problem with my Raspberry 1 256 MB model, with an ext4 SATA drive attached via USB<-> SATA adapter. After ~64 MB the transfer of a file using Windows explorer fails. But also, accessing the same drive via another Linux box (a Le Potato running LibreELEC) via SMB protocol...

Re: Next Gen Raspberry: Joint venture?

The issue currently is that most of the competition only seem to be going after price/performance and so don't cover what many would suggest are the important things (documentation/ support/ updates). I agree, this is a really important point. Asus Tinkerboard I think kind of failed because of them...

Re: Next Gen Raspberry: Joint venture?

@jamesh: I've had USB problems in the folowing situations (If you dig in this forum for some posts of mine you'll find the "history" from a few years ago): Connecting USB Soundcard to Raspberry V1 --> When recording from Mic, short interruptions that cause "tick"-sounds Connecting WiFi dongle to USB...

Next Gen Raspberry: Joint venture?

Dear all, I'm a Raspberry fan and user since the first generation, owning 6 Pi's across all versions by now and running home automation, media center etc. on it. Two things I miss very much: A proper USB implementation (this has caused all kinds of problems for me, even on Pi 3 - basically I do not ...

Re: Cirrus Logic Audio Card

I was actually hoping that the Voice HAT became mass-available, assuming that it would have an ADC, but from this here: https://www.element14.com/community/community/raspberry-pi/blog/2017/05/04/googles-alexa-like-pi-aiy-kit-mini-teardown I now learn that there is no ADC, it's just digital MEMS micr...

Re: Cirrus Logic Audio Card

Hi habropoda, thanks for pointing me to that post. Obviously I was not able to Google this myself :-) And the Element14 forum and me never got along too well... Actually, yesterday I burned the midnight oil and soldered an adapter which does in principle exactly what's described in the post (the "pi...

Re: Cirrus Logic Audio Card

Now that my euphoria has subsided a little bit :-), I am starting to think about actually putting the sound card to work. One thing that bothers me is the pin-incompatibility with the 40 pin header - it would be really nice if I could use the Wolfson on my media center, and that really benefits from...

Ooooh, I already had lost all hope that my Wolfson card would ever be supported by the official kernel and had written it of as wasted money, vowing to never buy anything again from element14... Just stumbled across this thread! Thanks 1000 times to Matthias "Hias" Reichl for creating the driver! On...

Re: New 8MP Camera - Q&A thread

Hi all, i finally produced some test images, trying my best at focussing the V2.1 modules. Have a look here: Caerandir's test images . For my modules, the lenses are still sitting pretty tight after refocussing, so I do not experience focus shifts with module tilt or so. However, focus is rather sus...

Re: Edimax EW-7811Un power problem

Hi MrEngman, thanks for the advice! Do you see the red PWR led on the Pi turning of at all when you have the wifi directly connected to the Pi? No, no undervoltage reported by the Pi itself. It's not only the PSU that matters. If the cable connecting the PSU to the Pi is poor quality, too thin or to...

Edimax EW-7811Un power problem

Dear all, I just bought an Edimax EW-7811Un Rasp, which to my undertanding is kind of the "official" Raspberry WiFi Dongle. I see many reports and photos/videos of Users driving this unit directly from a USB port of their Raspberry. Edimax itself advertises its product by showing a Raspberry with th...

Re: New 8MP Camera - Q&A thread

With the v1 cameras it was definitly a square bit of filter in front of the sensor, not part of the lens. Never pulled one apart myself, but there are several videos on youtube that show exactly that.

Re: Enhancement request: raspivid/raspistill --display optio

OK, I think I understand what you're aiming at, thank you very much! Honestly, I'd asked my question hoping that this would somehow get into the official release of raspivid/raspistill, since I don't like the additional effort required to keep my personal diversion/branch up to date. I don't think I...

Enhancement request: raspivid/raspistill --display option

Dear all,

with omxplayer I can use the --display option to redirect the output to e.g. a HDMI monitor while having the 7" touch display as primary/X/LXDE/GUI-monitor. I'd be really happy if I could do the same with raspivid/raspistill.

Anyone able to implement that?

Thanks!

OK, here are some pictures - better, especially some pointing at infinity, will follow, these are just quick'n'dirty, even the focussing can possibly be improved. Refocusing

Dear all, I just built Caerandirs Pi-Camera refocusing tool(TM) [Patent pending] :-) by taking an old credit card, drilling a hole (5mm) into it and using a sharp paper knife to cut out notches to match the notches of the camera lens. With this it was a piece of cake to loosen the lens with a light ...

Re: New 8MP Camera - Q&A thread

+1 from me. Viscous compund would be great!

Anyhow, good news to hear it is most likely "just" the focus - I'll try a little bit around with re-focusing my module (on my own risk...) next days... Just out of curiosity: What exactly is the intended object distance the modules are focused at?

Re: New 8MP Camera - Q&A thread

With quite some disappointment I need to revise my previous post - when digging out the camera modules I own, I realized that obviously one of them - the one I started testing with - is a "China knockoff": https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=81500 - it was sold to me as the genui...

New 8MP Camera - Q&A thread - Feature request

Dear all, I just got today the new 8MP camera, one normal and one NoIR. Quick test result (no in depth testing yet): Both work well with me, no unsharpness - on the contrary: The sharpness as compared to the 5MP module is considerably better! I realized the the angular size of a pixel with both came...
