Re: Simple Car project

Sounds like a cool little project, I'm tempted to say potentially you could get these items off the shelf from some cheap motor store, but where is the fun in that? I have been experimenting recently and found one great thing with the RPi is the I2C interface on the GPIO pins, it allows you to conne...

Re: pi3: how to avoid "any" radiation?

Exactly why are you trying to stop and emissions from the RPi? If you are searching for aliens in the middle of the desert and need no electrical noise at all I can kind of understand it (or extreme test conditions), but if its just for the sake of radio emissions, they will be so small from the RPi...

Re: I think I might have broken my B+ USB everything..

I get that, I guess I was wondering about if there are test points the Same as the A+ on the B+ that are before the hub chip. I have also seen something online that suggests sometimes the power to the USB can fail on the B+ which means the devices dont work, going to see if I can look in to that ton...

Re: I think I might have broken my B+ USB everything..

I saw on Ebay someone selling about 4 Pi's, some with dead ethernet, some with dead USB, indicating that it wasnt both. I think I shall rename my B+ 'Zero' for zero connectivity lol. I cant find my other Raspberry Pi at the minute as we have packed alot of our house ready to move, so not sure if its...

I think I might have broken my B+ USB everything..

So Lastnight I was working on a project on my B+ which has had a slight suspect usb power port, which I found only 1 good short USB cable that would work on the PI (all the rest I had just didnt seem to power the PI properly) that was about 4" long from a Nokia. For my project I built a GPIO plug in...

So Also I was wondering if using something like a USB sound card would eliminate 'noise' and if the poorer quality is just limited to the audio jack itself?

Audio DAC vs headphone jack on rpi?

So I`m looking at building myself a little juke box unit type thing, that will be battery power, have an lcd touch screen for control and a separate amp for speakers, all running off a 5v battery pack setup. Then i got to the thought about connecting the amp to pi and thought well if i use an A/+ or...

Re: Rpi as a SCSI hard drive?

The funny part is I stumbled across this too a few days ago. Looks like an interesting project although in Japanese which some of the schematics are making the notes hard to read although google does a good job of the rest. The new instance of why I gained interest is because of a problem I was havi...

Supply and Demand of Pi Zero's 12 months on?

So recently I have been thinking some of my projects could be scaled down to Raspberry pi Zeros to make them smaller and thought if I buy 2 or 3 should sort me out for a while, however it seems the Pi hut and Pimorini still have order restrictions on 1 per customer? I'm under the impression that Pi'...

Re: USB Stick vs SD card on Pi A/B/B+/Zero/2

Its ok, last year I managed to finally get my hands on a harddrive unit for my Amiga 500, it came with 20mb scsi, I then upgraded it to 1gb! I just thought about it for some of the projects I have been doing where I have tons of 2gb sd cards and 80gb IDE/Sata hard drives that are perfectly usable, w...

Re: USB Stick vs SD card on Pi A/B/B+/Zero/2

I guess my main interest was about reliability and if it performs as well as an average class 4 micro SD. I have a couple of Rpis that I plan to do all sorts with as mentioned various models. Frequently I set up 2 at my house as CCTV recorders while I'm away should anything happen in the day I can s...

USB Stick vs SD card on Pi A/B/B+/Zero/2

So I am understanding that you can use a small SD card containing just the 'boot' bit thats normally on the windows formatted part of the card to boot the Pi to a USB stick. I wondered whether people have noticed in improvements of performance or if there are any issues with this? Basically at work ...

Re: Multiple usb disks as one with Pi?

I wondered if there was a method for which you could get the pi to mount a disk when it was inserted and essentially just add it on to existing storage? The feature you are looking for is provided by modern filesystems such as zfs on Solaris and btrfs on Linux. Raspbian uses a recent enough Linux k...

Re: Multiple usb disks as one with Pi?

I thought at the moment I have a 1tb btsync server at home running a model B, if I could start with the amount I need (which is like 256gb straight away) then add more sticks later If you already have the 1T server in the house, why does your bedside clock radio thing need 256+ gigs? The 1tb server...

Re: Multiple usb disks as one with Pi?

yes there is but in reality it is best avoided - if ones dies they all die... you can add a new drive and mount it anywhere on the file system. or also see SSD's for size and quietness. SSDs are not all that cheap and also are 2.5" memory sticks are a fair bit smaller. The thing you say about the o...

Multiple usb disks as one with Pi?

I started looking online earlier and wasnt sure if it was possible, but I was looking into the idea of building an expandable server. I thought at the moment I have a 1tb btsync server at home running a model B, its one of my few projects thats been successful, but it uses a WD 3.5" external hard dr...

Re: SD Card image works with one device but not others?

Ok so the plot thickens a little. This was on the card I had updated and dist-updated, so then I have another SD card with ...

Re: Saving to USB

Although I dont have a direct response, I am thinking if the USB is mounted correctly you should be able to see it in the /mnt/ folder.

I have a couple of Pi btsync servers and had to set the drive to mount at the begining and I can access it if I go through the mnt folder.

Re: SD Card image works with one device but not others?

Its not going to be used on a 3/Zero generally as I have several B+ units for the job, if I can get it to work on one of those will be enough!.

I'll give the distro upgrade a go, as I did update and upgrade lastnight which hasnt resolved the issue yet.

SD Card image works with one device but not others?

So couple of years back when there was just A and B Pi's before the plus/2/zero/3 I was using some of my devices as remote CCTV running from battery, using stuff from the raspi.tv website. The setup was great and a learning experience using the camera and finding out how power hungry these little de...

See I cant remember of any of that was in the original config.txt, I looked yesterday and the only thing I could identify in the Config txt was the dtparam line that I took out, but it didnt make a difference. Originally it was a case of 'add this line' to the config file, so I figured taking it out...

Getting the ACT light back working on a Rpi A?

So I built a media centre a while ago, which started by testing a 16gb mem card on a Pi B+, set it all up and got some basic stuff working including moving the ACT light to one of the GPIO pins as the media centre was going in a PC case and I was using the PC case LEDs. I bought a Pi2B and built a n...
