Re: Saving a few pennies more

I presume that you know about Kingsford charcoal... I do now, and that appears to be related. I was referring to Henry Fords requirement of slots and holes in packing crates from suppliers, which ended up being used for floor panelling in his cars. The slots were conveniently placed for gas and bra...

Re: Getting my screen at the right resolution!

You need to edit the file config.txt. sudo nano /boot/config.txt Go to the WIKI for more accurate information. http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt You'l need for example two such lines: framebuffer_width=480 framebuffer_height=320 Enter the required resolution. BTW: I hope I got that right I am not at ...

Re: Request - 'Mounting hole' location relative to pin 1 of

And besides what Jessie said.... We did get some pretty good results by ourselves anyway and the 3D CAD model from Traceparts (RS Raspberry pi model) is actually pretty accurate. I just confused things by going to 2D to make measurements. If I do it in the 3D model I can measure almost anything and ...

Re: Controlling many gpio inputs / outputs

Yes you need to explain better. If you have 6 buttons, they have per button the state on or off, as written above, that's 6 inputs. If you only want the leds to light while you are pressing a button it is simply hardware, if you want to toggle on off by pressing buttons (I suspect this is your inten...

Are you sure this is a cheaper and better option? You need an extra stick, a pi, a power supply? I see this getting easily as expensive as a range extender or am I wrong?

There's probably an SF story set about 30 years in the future in which Linux takes over because of MS license marking and restriction. Everyone just gives up on MS and switches. If you look at all the Anroid devices popping up all over the place, I kind of get the impression it will not take 30 yea...

Re: Coil winding Pi.

I'd say for the pi it doesn't look too difficult - getting the mechanical side of things up and running would be the challenge (or at least the expensive part). Good luck with that.

Re: Three capacitors are missing

Well I'd just say he can't have knocked them off, at least very unlikely he did that and didn't notice at the time, due to the fact that these parts don't exactly stick out much and are surrounded by higher parts which are still there. The pi should have 12 months warranty, and since the pictured pi...

Probably bad solder joints. Those surface mount parts are hard to pick up even when they're loose! Fallen off I'd say, not ripped.

The OP didn't actually say that was a picture of his board. I think he has the picture from somewhere else and he means that these are the ones missing on his pi.

Sounds like you are in an endless loop. Maybe put it in a while loop with a condition to leave, for example keypress, GPIO input or counting variable.

Well yes it's too bright for one thing, but I also wouldn't get my hopes up about having a high picture quality from any web cam. The best pictures I can get are made using an oldish digital video camera which allows itsself to be used as a webcam. I think it has better optics or something. On a dul...

Re: Absolute beginners!

Your OS is more than likely to be Raspian Wheezy. I'd reccomend updating if you have an internet connection. First log in with username pi and password raspberry. Then type sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade which should get you more up to date. Maybe take a look at http://www.themagpi.co.u...

oh the wonders of ANSI escape codes.... takes me straight back to 1990 when I were a lad... :D I was just trying some stuff out anyway, it appears (to me at least) that if you are really in the console "clear" does what is required. Re: How do I clear the Console Screen

Your method however doesn't actually clear the console screen, it just pushes everything out of sight. try this for comparision:

Code: Select all

os.system('printf "\033c"')
or simply (python3 example)

Code: Select all

print ("\033c")
