Re: Yacht-Computer
The Raspberry Pi's are cheap enough, instead of all-in-one setup, have seperate raspberry nodes for a set of functions. Maybe one 'master' Pi switch what's displaying and handle warnings?

Still reading thru this interesting thread. But it if still going, might also think about audio candy (music/sounds/voices) Non-programers could add these artistic touches.

Powered Pi/usb hub insertion
Greetings all,
With my Raspberry Pi B v2 powered up. When I plug in a none powered usb hub (Either with keyboard and mouse plugged into the hub or not), it will reboot. Wondering if this mostly likely a power issue, or a firmware issue?

early crypto disks
I saw the line
"starting early crypto disks" while booting the PI
and
"stopping early crypto disks" when it shut down.
Brings to mind the question, is possible to have the "/" partition encrypted?
Granted there's going to be a bit of a performance hit.

Interesting Tid bit
Greetings fellow pi users. If you've ever visited http://www.danasoft.com/ you know it makes a little widget that displays the IP address you are visiting from, and decent at guessing your provider name, type Operating System you are using, and Which browser you are using. I got a kick out of it, be...

Re: Really need some help
Laptop Batteries are pretty proprietary. You can buy a usb to internal drive cable/driver with connecters for different type drives, 3.5 P/ATA drive and S/ATA drives will need separate power input (usually provided with same cable/driver)

Thanks!
That solved the issue. Have two external hard drives used between Linux and Win computers. And needed common file system for files bigger than 4 gig.

Curiousily Smaller .flac files
With my Raspberry B version 2, 512 memory. Stock settings.
Between my Ubuntu 12.04 machine and The Raspberry Pi.
$ flac -8 file.wav
the Raspberry would make smaller files if it did take longer to encode compared to the 64 bit quad core processor.
