Media centre + touchscreen

I'm getting a bit fed up now. Thats all I want is a Linux installation with a desktop that i can install xbmc on and get my touchscreen to work. Do I have to stick with the "Wheezy" installation to get the desktop or are there others I can use?

Thanks Pluggy that worked. Any idea why my touch screen settings dont stay permanent? Ive put the .conf file in etc/X11/xorg.conf.d & in /user/share/X11/xorg.conf.d but niether work.

Sorry to be a pain but i am learning slowly. Cant get sound through headphone jack. Works if I type sudo amixer cset numid=3 1 before startx I need to make this command on every boot, where do I put it so it is read before startx.

OK. Ive got raspbian wheezy up and running, touch screen works albeit without permanancy, I can live with that. Thanks to everyone who has helped. My next dilema is how do I get xbmc installed.

I'm not convinced that these drivers are compatible with the ARM, or with the Raspberry Pi. It seems to me that the manufacturers only have drivers for x86 and XF86 and only on version 2 Linux. The instructions for installing manually wont work on the RaspPi. There's no /etc/X11/XF86Config file for...
