Re: How to control relays in safe way (isolated) ?

In your drawing you left out the required ground wire between the RPi and relay board. Most relay boards are active LOW which means a LOW (0V) turns the relay ON and HIGH turns them OFF I don't think you need the VCC from RPi to relay board if the relay board is powered separately. As far as i know...

Re: Raspbian kernel updates

I'd also like to see a newer kernel put in place, or at least see a backport of commit 5d1f40202bad12d4c70a2d40a420b30d23a72b1a.

I'm looking to run nzbget on btrfs, which can use sparse files, but I'm concerned this bug may result in loss of data.

Re: One PSU for Pi, WebCam, Wifi and 12v Motor

From the Cupieboard wiki they have a wiki page on using a molex power adapter to provide both 12v and 5v. The page is http://linux-sunxi.org/Cubieboard/HDD . Using a molex adapter with the linked usb splitter seems like it might do what you want. (Disclaimer: I'm not an expert in power adapters, and...

This is kind of an old post, but does anyone have any updates? Are there any dumps of the flash, preferable on a Roku with the same SOC.

CuBox has a Cryptographic Engine for $160: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=CuBox#Cryptographic_Engines_and_Security_Accelerator_.28CESA.29 and maybe the BeagleBone(AM3358) for $90 Thanks for the suggestion. CuBox has a Cryptographic Engine for $160
Seems a little on the expensive side. I'd probably look at picking up a BeagleBone Black for crypto needs. It's around the same price with hardware crypto ($45, but has flash and a power cord).

Programmable Switch

From reading the OpenWRT Documentation http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/uci/network/switch a lot of routers contain a programmable switch. Is there anything like this available for the Pi?

It would be nice to have some inexpensive easy way to add a vlan switch to the Pi.

Re: Please add hardware/GPU encryption

Had a chat with someone who knows, and there is no dedicated encryption HW on the Videocore4. Well, thank you for looking into this. The suggestion still stands maybe for a rev 3 board, or if someone internal has already done the work for running in the GPU. There are many projects it would be usef...

Re: Netflix?

@ghans: Was the thread you mean http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=14256 ? It includes a link for some image for the Roku 1, but that one uses a different processor. Also the signatures wouldn't matter because replacing the code on the Roku isn't useful. I'm hopeful that enough people...

Re: Netflix?

The processor isn't the problem because it runs on the Roku 2, which has the same processor. Also it doesn't need silverlight, they have natively compiled libraries for Android. Netflix could very easily support the Pi. They choose not to. My theory is that this is because of contracts requiring the...

Re: How to make packages available for apt-get?

To add to what ghans said, you might want to set up your own repository. It still means your users will have to do a little more than a simple apt-get, but at least they would be able to apt-get upgrade it with new versions. Also you could create a simple script to setup the repository. An example o...

Re: Please add hardware/GPU encryption

Excellent. Yes, I read about access to the RNG being added to the kernel. So I guess my request is to provide access to the encryption hw. Do you know why access isn't currently provided? Is it because the RPi foundation hasn't had time/motivation to provide access yet, or is Broadcom refusing to al...

Re: Please add hardware/GPU encryption

jamesh: Thank you for the info. I expected the algorithm would have to be rewritten to use SIMD instructions if that's not already done. Please add hardware/GPU encryption

I would really like to see hardware/GPU encryption added to the firmware images of the Pi. I've read some posts saying hardware encryption isn't included due to export regulations. I don't see how this can be the case when the hardware ships without any OS, and the crypto could be implemented in the...

One of the GPIO pins? Mine came the same way.

With mine I suspect if I put a cable on it I can still make it fit, so I'm keeping it as is.

Re: Mount ext4 drive as user other than "pi"

The files on the drive were copied there by 'pi', so they belong to that user. Their permissions are 'drwx------', which means only 'pi' can do anything with them. Off the top of my head I can think of a two options. You could change the files to be owned by 'bob'. To do that you'd want to do someth...
