Looking at the NAIS-300 manual it says it has a RS232 output/input. If the adapter you bought is a USB to TTL adapter, I'm afraid it won't work. You'll need a USB to RS232 adapter like Dougie said. It has a DB9 male connector, so you will need a DB9 female connector to solder wires on to connect to ...

I use this www.msldigital.com IR power switch. You can program the on/off function for any remote and when shutting down it will do a proper shutdown on the Pi

The ApplePi-Baker is an OSX application. It will transfer the image file to your microsd card. I use it to for all my singe board computers.

I use an app called ApplePi-Baker! It's quite easy to use.
Just use google and you'll find it

If your not seeing video, but have sound you may have to buy codecs
. I had the same problem and this solved for me. There should be a link on the main Raspberry Pi page.

If your in windows, use SD Formatter 4.0( google is your friend
). Makes it real easy to get your cards back to a windows format.
