You might want to try squeezeplay instead, it supports other formats beside 44.1kHz / 16bit so it maybe able to playback your files without resampling: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=56769 I run this on pogoplugs (another arm computer) not my raspberry pi (yet) but it runs great on those ...

I ended up buying a pair of "HDMI Female Jack 19pin Connector 180 Degree" for a few dollars on ebay. Then I used QuikChip and a nice temp controlled soldering iron and was able to successfully replace the HDMI port. It wasn't too bad, I just had to take my time.
