You could try the RasClock MODMYPI is selling. The hardware is ready assembled. Just insert the battery and plug into the Pi. I am not sure what distro you are using. Under Rasbpian I have edited /etc/default/keyboard and changed XKBLAYOUT="gb" to nz.

This works for me, here in Auckland, NZ.
Although at boot up there is a message about can't find nz symbols.
But this doesn't seem to be a problem.

Have you brought any codecs for use on your Pi?
They are available from the Raspberry Pi shop.
There are licences for mpeg-2 and vc-1.

If you don't have them this might be your problem.

Short answer no.
The current limit is less then 40ma.
You would have to use capacitors to hold the charge and the Pi would drain them to quickly.

I have had no problem with the power supplies in the raspberry pi kits being sold on Trademe. I buy the Pi from element14. Brent
