Re: Samba 4 keeps crashing

Thanks BBUK, I'll give it a try when I get home, if I get it working I'll try and pick apart your script and post up my mistake hopefully it'll help someone else out. Just seen your second post, I thought nmbd was required with smbd to access from windows? I am right thinking the network thing is in...

Re: Samba 4 keeps crashing

Maybe I'm missing something, but looking at the smb.conf I put in the original post I think I have made those changes. When I say it crashes I mean I run systemctl start nmbd smbd then systemctl status nmbd smbd it tells me that they're both inactive and died x seconds ago. With x being roughly the ...

Re: Samba 4 keeps crashing

Hi pepedog, I've already updated my smb.conf to remove these entries before I posted, I don't even get read access to the server like this guy. My smb.conf is just the default one with a couple of changes to personalise the name and add the couple of lines to allow annonymous login. Samba basically ...

Samba 4 keeps crashing

Hi guys, I've had a bit of a search around the web and I can't seem to find much info on this so I thought I'd ask some of the gurus here. I recently (stupidly) ran a pacman -Syu and didn't think much about it. Unfortunately I didn't realise (didn't pay attention) that samba had moved to version 4 s...

<t>Yeah, I "registered my interest" in the first 10 minutes, but the confirmation page never loaded (hopefully the info sent) and then the twitter said this was the wrong page, so I just kept refreshing, and didn't re-register again for another hour, when I did see the page.  I hope this hasn't cost...

I saw this the other day, thought of those looking for home build kits and had a little <del>giggle</del> beastly guffaw.

Who says BGA at home has to be hard?

<t>Lol, looks like i'm not the only one to have this idea, lol.  Yeah I reckon GPS and music.  Also with a bluetooth dongle we have a phone car kit!  Now I was planning on hooking the GPS through the serial.  But if you stick the GPS in the USB, you could probably use the serial to communicate with ...

Re: What is the Sex of the RaspberryPi ?

While English has no genders, we do attribute genders to certain things.  The penis is the only thing I can think of we attribute male gender to.  So as it's not a penis, I'm gonna go with female.

Amiright?

Re: Raspberry App Store

<t>I do kinda like the idea of an app store, the package managers I've used are great, as long as you know exactly what package you're are looking for.  App stores offer a nicer browsing experience and allow you to be a bit more generic in your searches.  They both have their places, and whats the p...

Re: Can i use raspberry pi mainly for web browsing?

<t>I'm almost 100% sure there is an HTML5 version of the iPlayer (pretty sure the PS3 version is).  Chrome supports HTML5 (not entirely sure if ARMv6 version does).  Now if my understanding is correct, browsers can pass HTML5 video decoding directly to hardware, if the iPlayer video codec can be dec...

Maybe slightly off topic, but would using a serial GPS module be surer choice?  Its what I plan to do just to educate myself on the matter but still the UART communicaton should be standard right?

Re: Home Audio System

As long as you don't need multitouch or capacititive touch a  resistive touch panel should cost around £10 and could be wired to the GPIOand will make any screen touch screen.

Re: D-sub/Vga Monitor Cables/ Accesories

<t>Yes and no.  I'm pretty sure you could drive a vga signal using the GPIO (I'm pretty sure an arduino can do it), however I doubt you could use it as any kind of sensible display.  Nokia screens on the other hand should be entirely doable.  Use it as a little system monitor for set and leave style...

Re: Lets brainstorm uses for the pi

<t>The media centre in a NES is a cool idea, how about decoding the NES controller inputs on the GPIO pins and using the NES controllers to control the Pi. You could also fit a high capacity laptop HDD in a NES cart, just for the look, run it over USB. Even have it boot into something like XBMC whic...

Re: How many here actually *care* about the goals of the project?

<t>I was under the impression that the purpose of these boards was to help people learn? The Ras-Pi offers possibly the best way to do this. Sure I could buy an old PC to do something similar. Except there are a finite number of old PCs, and they're certainly not portable. Can someone tell me where ...

Re: Is there a way to use the LCDs for, say, the PSP with the pi?

<t>Was actually looking at this today. I came across some (rather dated) websites that suggest a USB controller board exists. Although I have no idea whether the raspi is powerful enough power this. There are a few american ebay sellers selling LDVS boards, some with composite. inputs. Might be some...

I\'m not sure what the massive hate about porting CE to ras-pi is. Surely this kind of project is exactly what rap-pi is all about learning how to code and learning how computers work. What better way than writing drivers and porting an OS.

Re: Suspend to SD-card - Power On/Off Handling

<t>You could monitor the "on-ness" of the vehicle via a GPIO pin, have the power connected to the car's 5V line through a relay. Presumably the raspberry pi can still have it's OS etc shut down to a point where the simply switching off the power won't hurt any files, and then as the last thing it do...
