Re: [HOWTO] assign predictable WLAN device names without fiddling with MAC addrs

Even if I try to change their MAC addresses, my dongles are not recognized properly and they are always configured with addresses 169.254.0.0/16. Is there a way to solve this problem? - how do you change their MAC addresses? - the IP addresses your dongles receive is a matter of your DHCP servers -...

thanks for sharing this. Maybe there is a special dependency on external hubs and other devices in use in your system?

Re: [HOWTO] assign predictable WLAN device names without fiddling with MAC addrs

the examples given in the first post still are valid for RPi 3B+. I just verified. As outlined above in your case you simply need a file '72-wlan-geo-dependent.rules' with content: ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="net", SUBSYSTEMS=="sdio", KERNELS=="mmc1:0001:1", NAME="wlan0" ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="ne...

Re: Pi Access with Tablet/Smart Phone

just install

Termux - Android Apps on Google Play

on your tablet/ smartphone. This will enable an (almost) full-fledged debian apt environment (including ssh, sshd bash, vim, gawk, mutt, rsync) on your smartphone. I.e. with all the linux commands you already know from your PI.

The simple answer to that is to leave the raspberrypi.org stretch repositories in your sources.list.d directory.
wow, even better. Debian is simply configurable to any degree of up-to-dateness. Obviously some people don't know that but complain instead:-) There is nothing more to say.

I don't understand why people often complain about debian being outdated. The opposite is true. Ever heard about 'testing', 'unstable' or even 'experimental' debian repositories? Re: SMS

you can setup 'smsd' contained in the 'smstools' package to function as relay between email and SMS. So you just need to send/receive emails on the RPi. As you say 'annoying antenna that has to stick out' is not confined to your RPI then. Install your antenna (do you mean modem?) on any computer wit...

possibly it matters you use a Pi Zero W. I only could try with my RPi3. Besides that maybe there is a difference between the 2 Micro USB ports on your Pi Zero W? Anyway, good luck!

Re: USB 3G Dongle Disconnecting

I use one of my RPi3s as router between mobile networks and local WIFI. OS is raspbian (stretch) based, modem is: Huawei E3372 Out of curiosity I simply rebootet (init 6) and watched the modem LED. It goes completely off for a while and after this starts with blinking at higher frequency (indicating...

Re: looking for a simple and lightweight music player for PI ZERO

volume could be set
either with

'cplay' directly: press the 'h' key to get some 'help' => to control volume use the 1..9, +, - keys.

or with the help of

'amixer' utility (if you have the 'alsa-utils' package installed)

I don't know nothing about the E3372H.
Why is it important to use the 'H' version?
SMS could be sent via programs included in the 'smstools' package. Alternatively the 'modemmanager' also works for this.

I configured an RPi3 as WLAN access point (raspbian based, internal WLAN, simple bridge mode). normally you alter the crontab by the 'crontab' command (if you cease from editing the crontab directly by means of any text editor)

You could always buy a plug type psu and simply take it apart you often find there are wires connecting the PCB to the plug part so you can simply un-solder them.
?

- it's cheap
- it's secure
- needs no plug socket
- it's tiny size

Re: iptables start before OpenVPN tunel is up?

Or, there should be some way to make the rules only AFTER the tunnel is ready. (That sort of implies a security risk though...) you can setup your rules anytime even when the referred interfaces do not yet exist. It appears that something in your configuration already sets up some iptables in a wro...
