Re: The Big (little) Yellow Bolt of Doom

or a decent micro USB lead - if it's made out of CCA or wet string your not going to have much luck anyway
a decent thick copper only cable will be fine

Re: turn on desktop power supply

if your PC supportd WOL [Wake on Lan] then you can get your RPi to switch it on buy being plugged into the same network,
you can power the PI via the PC's 5V line
you can do a circuit to toggle the power button lines on the PC

Re: Pi3 reboot; motor noise, brownout or?

I would say that when you get a brownout the 5V stepdown drops too low and the PI reboots
I would also power the PI via the micro usb as that way you get a bit of protection
and stuff a large capacitor on the 5V line to
a) smooth it and
b) provide a stable 5V for when you get momentary brownouts.

Re: Using RPI with camera below 0 Celsius?

tupperware is not good enough as it will expand during the day and at night will suck in moister laden air which will condense out in the box during the next day
holes can be good in this case

Re: Pi Zero W Heating Rapidly and Won't Boot

this usually occurs with bad circuit design and either shorting or pulling more mA from the GPIO or 5V on the GPIO
