Re: Benchmark Minecraft Server on Raspberry Pi 2 [spigot]

Cool thanks. I tried hosting a MC server for a friend and I on an original Raspberry Pi and it wasn't playable. Maybe if would have been if I had disabled mobs and pregenerated the world.

Re: Benchmark Minecraft Server on Raspberry Pi 2 [spigot]

It appears you are correct, I haven't played Minecraft in a while. Did you use Spigot in the video?

Nice video! Could you do the same with a Bukkit server?

Re: RPi Just Hangs After Resize Filesystem

Yes I can use the Pi just fine if I don't resize (except I run out of disk space quickly). I will check if its fake later today but I doubt it. This is my first time turning my Pi on in ~1 year and it worked fine previously.

RPi Just Hangs After Resize Filesystem

After I resize filesystem, the RPi reboots and I am able to log in. As soon as I issue the first command (startx, sudo apt-get update, anything) the RPi will just sit there. I can hit enter into the command prompt and type anything I want but nothing happens. Does this mean my SD card is toast?

Ideas for class project?

Hi guys. In my Assembly Language and Operating Systems (a 300 level computer science class) class we have been divided into groups of 4 and we need to come up with a project to work on. I suggested to my group we use Raspberry Pi as I already have one and have access to another. We came across many ...

Thanks guys. I didn't realize the amps would get "used up" while devices were powered on.

Re: My Bramble is up and running!

Could you provide details on the USB hub you used to power the Pi's? I'm trying to avoid buying a phone charger for each one and would like to avoid soldering if possible because it will delay my project significantly.

Thanks!

Power 5 Pi cluster with 5V 2A USB hub

I am looking to create a 5 Pi cluster and power it and peripherals (probably just a WiFi stick and wireless keyboard/mouse) with a 5V 2A USB hub. Can someone confirm that this will work? I'd rather not have to purchase 5 iphone chargers... Here is a link to one I was looking at if you want to see it...

Re: Coin Toss Simulator

As for PiGraham's hardware rng, I don't understand what it is saying at all! It was just something Google threw up. The idea is to use electronic noise as the source of randomness. To use it with a Pi you could sample the output once for each bit of a random number. If you want a 32 bit random numb...

I have had a try at modifying your code to use /dev/random. I will post it here after I have a chance to mess with it. Here it is, but the speed is a little disappointing! #include <cstdlib> #include <ctime> #include <fstream> #include <iostream> using namespace std; //-----------------------------...

Hi, I'm writing a small program in C++ that simulates a large number of coin tosses. ... I worry that by doing so many simulations in a short period of time (1.25 million in the time it takes to loop through them) I run out of true random values. Coin Toss Simulator

I'm writing a small program in C++ that simulates a large number of coin tosses. I would like any input on it. My main concern is that I read that entropy is like a "limited resource" so I worry that by doing so many simulations in a short period of time (1.25 million in the time it takes to loop th...

Re: SSH Connection Disconnected after apt-get upgrade

Hey guys, I kept retrying "sudo apt-get upgrade" until I no longer got an error message (like 5 min) and it works fine. Except for a package called libc or something that won't update. No idea if its related.

SSH Connection Disconnected after apt-get upgrade

What can I do now? I can't kill the process and I don't know if any prompts are going to come up (therefore causing the upgrade to pause indefinitely). What can I do about it? I don't want to break something (happened before) and have to reflash my card.

It is "sudo apt-get install vim". Otherwise that is the correct package name. You may need "sudo apt-get update" first, as above.
Thanks guys, this worked! Though I tried

Code: Select all

apt-cache search vim
right before it, I don't know if that helped or not.

Vim with Color Syntax on Pi

The version of Vim on the Rasbian Distro does not support color syntax, I tried to install the full version but it always says "Unable to locate package"

Any suggestion? I've tried

Code: Select all

apt-get vim
apt-get vim-rt
apt-get vim-full
Same error for each.

Thanks

Re: SD Card Backup

Can I use rsync (or any other utility) to backup my Pi's SD card to an attached external hard drive? Re: SSH/SFTP into Pi on University Network

Interesting, I wasn't suspecting that. I'll bring it out here to test. Assuming I don't turn the Pi off it's ip should stay the same right? If my school down't block connections from outside, how would I find the Pi? I don't expect it gets its own "outside world" ip address. ie, while it's at home I...

SSH/SFTP into Pi on University Network

Right now I have my Pi setup at my mom's house plugged into the router and an external hard drive. I was wondering if there was a way I could bring my Pi to school (I'm staying in university housing) and still be able to SSH/SFTP into it. I feel like it's not possible because I do not have control o...

Can I view power usage/input in Raspian Wheezy?

I have seen multiple posts where people say they'll "go check how much power" their Pi is using. Is this something I can do within the OS?

Thanks
