Re: Raspbmc. Cant connect to update server
Do you get the same errors when booting into Raspian?
Have you tried any of the other XBMC OS's, such as OpenELEC or XBian?
See if you get the same issues with those. Try another power supply if you can, they are the biggest cause of problems with the Pi.

Re: New to using the Pi
I too am/was new to programming, the Pi project has completely inspired me to learn to programme and to get into electronics too. This thing isn't just for kids, its a great tool for everyone of ANY age who are new to programming or electronics. I can highly recommend the MagPi Magazine (as recommen...

Yes, it was something they apparently introduced recently. Their own repository that should update with apt-get update/upgrade.

Re: Raspbmc. Cant connect to update server
I had a similar problem... it was caused by my Apple Keyboard (which has two in built USB ports) drawing too much power. I unplugged this and it worked fine. Try plugging in your peripherals through a powered USB hub.

Re: Power question, or is it?? (Sorry) [Solved - F3 fault]
Well I recieved my 2nd replacement Pi this morning, a Made in UK one and ALL the problems seem to go. The voltage drop across the F3 is only down to 4.9v and thats even with my keyboard, mouse, ethernet and SD card in. So I am very happy now with that, and a big thanks to NewIT.co.uk - absolutely fa...

Re: Kernel panic - not syncing : VFS: Unable to mount root f
Well I have come across this issue a few times when DD'ing the img to the SD card. All appears to go well but some files are obviously not copied, or bad sectors written. So if you havent tried it... try formatting the card and re-download the image.

Re: Polyfuse reduces voltage input
Mine is also a Made in China model... This is the 2nd unit I have had now, sent the first back to NewIt.co.uk and got this replacement. The first one was dropping to 4.3v over the F3 polyfuse. This one is dropping to 4.5v. I have tried just powering the Pi through the USB port, bypassing the F3, but...

Re: Power question, or is it?? (Sorry) [Solved - F3 fault]
I have a Rev2 board 512mb RAM. I have tried back powering from my 5v 2.5a USB hub but the TP1/2 readings are around 4.3v. So I reverted back to the MicroUSB, have tried 3 different solutions for this (iPad charger, USB Hub, and a Nokia Charger 5v 1.2a). The USB hub power gives the best readings over...

Re: Polyfuse reduces voltage input
Set up as per the picture, the reading with the probes not touching is 1. with them touching it is 1.2(ish) - it fluctuates
But the voltage is definately dropping over the F3 fuse by at least 0.45v
Another return to where I bought it?

Re: Polyfuse reduces voltage input
I am new to electronics, can you advise how I measure my polyfuse correctly to determine its reading? I have attached the photo of how I currently have my multi-metre setup for it, not sure if it is correct? I unplugged the Pi and read the F3 fuse and with the current settings of the MM i get a read...

Re: Power question, or is it?? (Sorry) [Solved - F3 fault]
I have just received my replacement Pi from NewIt today, but I am still getting voltage drop across the F3 fuse, not as much this time, it is only dropping to around 4.5- 4.54 v.
Is there anything else I can try without having to contact NewIt and send this one back too?

Re: Kernel panic - not syncing : VFS: Unable to mount root f
Can you provide more details... How are you installing the img. to the SD card? Through the Win32DiskImager or using the DD command (Mac/Linux) Have you re-downloaded the file from raspberrypi.org/downloads? Have you tried any of the other Operating systems that are easy to install, such as Raspbmc ...

Re: Power question, or is it?? (Sorry)
Ok... I have now tested the voltage on the SD card side of the F3 fuse and there is a massive drop-off down to 4.39v.
So am I best contacting Newit.co.uk to ask for exchange?
Cheers
EDIT: Newit.co.uk have kindly offered an exchange on my Pi. Thanks for all the help on this issue.

Re: Power question, or is it?? (Sorry)
Right bgirardot. I followed the instructions from 'pluggy' and measuring from the back of the TP2 to the outside edge of the F3 fuse I get 4.97-4.99v reading that is with the SD card in, without the SD card in i get 5.08v(ish). So does that mean it is a problem with the Power units or the USB lead I...

Thanks for the info. I will have a look through that when I get home tonight. I thought it was something I was doing wrong. Must have reinstalled openelec and raspbmc about 20 times. Tried different SD cards. Now after gettin my multi meter today I realise I am not going mad, ....yet!

Power question, or is it?? (Sorry) [Solved - F3 fault]
Hello All, I am very sorry to ask another power source question, I know a lot have already been asked, but I couldn't find an answer to my query. I have tried powering my Pi using 2 different sources; 1 is an iPad Charger (5v, 1A) and the other is a Powered Belkin USB Hub that has 5v 2.5a on the ada...

Connecting to Networked hard drives or sharing USB drives
Hello all, I have to say it is great to be aboard. I have just ordered my RPi from newit.co.uk and am eagerly awaiting its arrival. My main reason for purchase is to use it for XBMC (Raspbmc), which I have been currently running from my iMac, but liked the idea of a separate device to run it from. A...
